  1. Bin service route reviewed after bin lorries 'too wide'published at 14:19

    Birmingham City Council's admitted some recycling bin collections have been missed - because the wagons are too big for some streets. 

    Councillor Lisa Trickett says the width of the lorries was not considered by the council during the specification process.

    The Birmingham council says a review of the routes is now being carried out.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says people have called them, external about a scary hedgehog, wanting a lift home from the pub and losing their keys. 

    Some of the time-wasting calls have been released to highlight the problem which managers in the region say affects how they handle the 3,000 calls they receive every day.

    A 53-year-old man is in hospital after he was attacked by three men armed, external with a golf club and metal bar in Birmingham last week.

    Three masked men approached the victim outside HQ Prime Meats, Fawdry Street in Smethwick on Friday 8 January after he'd locked up the business.

    Michal Zyro (pictured) scored twice on his home debut as Wolves beat Fulham 3-2 to move up to 10th in the Championship. 

    The victory was Wolves' fourth in a row in the league. Boss Kenny Jackett described it as "a different type of game" that was "more open" and forced them "to go more attacking".

  6. Patient jailed for raping a Birmingham City Hospital workerpublished at 12:04

    An out-patient who raped a member of staff at Birmingham City Hospital has been jailed for 12 years.

    Liam McCarthy followed the woman into a staff toilet and attacked her - threatening to kill her if she cried out.

    The 25-year-old tried to leave the hospital but was detained by security after the woman raised the alarm.

    McCarthy, of Phoenix Street in West Bromwich, pleaded guilty to the assault that took place on 7 October.

  8. School development under way 10 years after shaming DVDpublished at 11:00

    It's been more than 10 years since pupils at a Walsall school tried to shame the government into action, by presenting a DVD highlighting the filthy conditions they had to put up with.

    Children from the Joseph Leckie Academy made this film in 2005 to complain about the quality of their teaching areas. 

    But now they're finally getting close to a new £6m teaching block and work is under way for another block following extra funding, which is due to open in the spring.

    Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew says the Premier League does not want to lose a club of Aston Villa's "magnitude".
