    A Muslim women's group has told us councillor Muhammad Afzal should not just step aside from the Lord Mayor role - but all of his roles.

    Shaista Gohir, chair of Digbeth-based Muslim Women's Network said Mr Afzal - who is also chair of Birmingham Central Mosque - refused to recognise domestic violence and forced marriage as issues during a meeting. 

    It comes after he was also reported to have called the Prime Minister an Islamophobe.

    We have tried to contact Councillor Afzal a number of times, but are waiting for a reply.

  2. Yardley MP compares new year's sex attacks to average night out in Birminghampublished at 09:19 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2016

    Yardley MP Jess Phillips has compared the recent sex attacks in Cologne to an average night out on Broad Street. 

    Groups of women in the German city have reported being assaulted by groups of around a thousand North African and Arab men. 

    Appearing on Question Time last night, the MP likened the assaults to Birmingham, where she claimed women were "baited and heckled". She said we had to attack "patriarchal culture" coming in anywhere.

  3. Woman hit by car in Tamworth suffered 'serious injuries'published at 08:56 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2016

    A woman in her 60s was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Tamworth last night.

    It happened on the A453 Sutton Road near to the junction of George Avenue just after 18:00. She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

    The last Land Rover Defender will roll off the production line later ending 67 years of the popular 4x4 being made.

    Jaguar Land Rover has discontinued the iconic off-road vehicle, which has been exported across the world.

    More than two million have been made since the original Land Rover Series began production in Solihull in 1948.
