    The Health Ombudsman is to look again at whether the death of a Walsall woman was avoidable.  

    Audrey Humpage, aged 70, died in January 2014 after doctors at Walsall Manor Hospital withdrew treatment. They said that she was terminally ill with cancer when in fact she had a pelvic abscess.

    Official statistics have shown the smallest proportion of happy people in England are living in Wolverhampton. 

    Despite its low happiness rating, however, Wolverhampton has also emerged as the place where people feel the least anxious, with 58.5% rating themselves at zero or one out of 10 for anxiety.

    Birmingham's NEC was the site of the first outside broadcast since the BBC's former Birmingham base Pebble Mill opened.

    When it opened 40 years ago, it was seen as Britain's shop window to the rest of the World.

    Network Rail says it's working to clear the Birmingham to Walsall line after a tree fell on it this lunchtime.

    Handsworth fire station said there were reports earlier that the tree was on fire.

  14. Fallen tree closes railway trackpublished at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2016

    Three trains are stuck on a track and passengers are having to stay inside the carriages after a fallen tree took down power lines and narrowly missed a house.  

    It happened near the junction of Wellington Road and Upper Grosvenor Road in Handsworth Wood, blocking the Birmingham to Walsall line, Handsworth fire station said.

    The largest proportion of happy people in England are living in Mid Sussex, the smallest in Wolverhampton, according to official statistics, external.

    Data collected over three years has been used to measure the wellbeing of more than 300,000 people across the UK.

    On average, people rated their happiness between seven and eight out of 10.

  16. Police officer 'gave misleading account of Plebgate meeting', tribunal hearspublished at 13:34 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2016

    A police officer accused of giving a misleading account of a "Plebgate" meeting praised Sutton Coldfield MP Andrew Mitchell for his "candour" before telling the media the politician had been evasive, a tribunal has heard.

    Detective Sergeant Stuart Hinton (pictured in the beige coat) and two other Police Federation representatives met the Tory MP at his constituency offices in October 2012, three weeks after the then cabinet minister Mr Mitchell was refused permission to cycle through the main gates at Downing Street and accused of insulting officers.

    Serving Warwickshire Police officer Mr Hinton is alleged to have made misleading comments about what was said at that meeting in an interview on BBC Radio Five Live on October 13. 

    A misconduct panel has been convened at the force headquarters to hear an allegation that the officer - who denies any wrongdoing - breached the force's professional standards of honesty, integrity and conduct.

    Newspaper stories today suggesting that Remi Garde might consider his future as Villa manager, external following their failure to improve the squad in the transfer window may attract some sympathy from Villa supporters.  

    Garde told us yesterday that any signings the club did manage to make on deadline day would not be his first choices.  

    Villa’s League position didn’t make the task easier, but any slight lift in morale from the recent brief unbeaten run now appears to have been lost.  Without reinforcements, and ten points from safety with 15 games to play, Villa head to West Ham tonight.
