  7. Transfer Deadline Day round-up: Saddlers hold on to key playerspublished at 10:27 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2016

Deadline day for the Saddlers wasn’t about what they did, but what they didn’t do.

They were adamant all day that the most-coveted members of their squad, specifically the top-scorer Tom Bradshaw, would not be sold.

A flurry of worry among a few supporters was sparked by a fake claim on a fairly crude parody Twitter account that Bradshaw was going – Walsall quickly asserted that he wasn’t, and he wouldn’t be.  And he didn’t.

Their promotion challenge continues tonight at Doncaster, no doubt with renewed optimism among their supporters.

West Bromwich Albion indicated that they had no intention of changing their stance on selling Saido Berahino in advance of deadline day, and were true to their word, despite endless hyping of the possibility from outside.

However much money Newcastle did offer, it wasn’t enough to tempt Jeremy Peace to sell, and that in turn made it much less likely Albion would expand their squad.

They did add the talented young midfielder Alex Pritchard, on loan from Tottenham; he could feature against Swansea at The Hawthorns tonight.
