    Aston Villa manager Remi Garde refused to talk about his future following his side's 2-0 defeat at West Ham.

    The Midlands club are bottom of the Premier League - 10 points from safety - and failed to make any signings in the January transfer window.

    Reports have since suggested Garde will reassess his future, external in the summer.

    But the Frenchman said: "I'm speaking only about the game. I have nothing else to say. It's not the time to answer this question."

    A man with mental health problems shot and blinded an ex-police sergeant in one eye, jurors have found.

    They have made the decision in a special finding of fact hearing at Stafford Crown Court today. They also found Matthew Tearle, 35, possessed a prohibited firearm.

    Former policeman Jon King (pictured), who grew up in Rugeley and has since retired from Staffordshire Police after losing his right eye, was shot with a rubber ball from a paintball gun in October 2014.

    Tearle, who suffers from schizophrenia and Asperger's syndrome, has been given a hospital order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act.

    UB40 will return to the pub where the video for Red Red Wine was filmed later. 

    The band is returning to the Eagle & Tun pub in Digbeth. 

    It had been closed for several years but has now reopened following a revamp.

    New official statistics have shown just one in five Wolverhampton people said they were happy in a survey, making it the least happy place in England.  

    I have been asking people around the city their thoughts on the study.

    Carla Williams, 31, from Springfield, said Wolverhampton was “the most boring place ever to live”, and it “doesn’t even look like a city”.

    West Ham secured a fourth win in six Premier League games to stay sixth in the table with victory over 10-man Aston Villa, who remain bottom.

    The visitors, who had an early penalty shout turned down during a bright start, had Jordan Ayew sent off for elbowing Aaron Cresswell after 17 minutes.

    "We were denied a penalty," said Villa boss Remi Garde. "I'm sorry for the referee but it was a clear penalty.

    "We started well. Then after this penalty and this stupid red card, the game was over."

    Campaigners in Birmingham are trying to save the shop mobility service in the city.

    It's under threat because the charity that runs it, the Access Committee for Birmingham, says it needs more funding. 

    The service allows disabled people to borrow mobility scooters to visit places like the Bullring. 

  13. Lollipop men and women 'will lose jobs unless schools fund patrols', says GMB unionpublished at 10:03 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2016

    School crossing wardens have been told they will lose their jobs unless schools agree to pay the cost of funding them, a union has claimed. 

    Birmingham City Council is set to make a decision on funding lollipop ladies and men later this month, saying it was trying to find different ways to finance patrols. 

    But the GMB union said the 180 staff had already been told they will be made redundant unless schools pay £5,100 a year towards the cost.

    Councillor Brigid Jones, cabinet member for children's services said alternative ways of funding patrols could include schools paying for them themselves, or support from local businesses. 

    She stressed the council had put £400m over "the last few years" into road safety schemes including 20mph zones, improved cycle routes and safer routes to school schemes.

    An ex-police sergeant has described the moment he was shot in the eye allegedly by a man with mental health problems.

    Jon King, who grew up in Rugeley and has since retired from Staffordshire Police after losing his right eye, was shot with a rubber ball from a paintball gun.

    Mr King told Stafford Crown Court he felt a "hammer blow to my right eye".

    In a special finding of fact hearing, the jury will have to decide if Matthew Tearle, 35, shot Mr King causing grievous bodily harm in October 2014. The jury is expected to retire on Wednesday.

    A business plan put together to try and save Dudley Hippodrome has been rejected by the council as unviable. 

    It was put forward by the Friends of Dudley Hippodrome.

    A woman did not tell the authorities her "bullying" husband had travelled to Syria to join the so-called Islamic State, a court was told.

    Jurors at the Old Bailey heard Lorna Moore, 33, did not say Sajid Aslam, 34, had left their home in Walsall.

    He was allegedly dropped off at Stansted Airport in August 2014 by Ayman Shaukat, ex-treasurer of Walsall Islamic Centre.

    Mr Shaukat and Ms Moore both deny terror-related offences.
