    Our top story at 18:30: A court's heard how a vulnerable teenager in local authority care was groomed, exploited and sold for sex in a red light district. 

    Eleven men from Birmingham, the Black Country, Coventry and Staffordshire have gone on trial accused of sexual offences against the boy which the prosecution say have left him "traumatised".

    There's a lane blocked and queuing traffic on the  M42 southbound between J6, A45 (Birmingham Airport) and J5, A41 (Solihull), because of an accident involving a van and a car. Congestion is back to J7a M6, BBC Travel reports.

    There's also heavy traffic on the M6 southbound between J6 A38(M) Aston Expressway and J5, A452 (Castle Bromwich), because of an earlier broken down vehicle with congestion to J7, A34 (Great Barr).  

    Plus, there's a lane closed on the exit slip road and very slow traffic southbound on the M42 J6, A45 (Birmingham Airport), because of a broken down vehicle.

    A 14-year-old boy was "pimped out" on the streets of a red light district in Birmingham, a jury has heard.

    Prosecuting, Rosina Cottage QC told Warwick Crown Court the boy was in the care of social services when he was subjected to "horrifying and appalling behaviour".

    Twelve men from Birmingham, Coventry, the Black Country, Staffordshire, and one from London, deny a total of 80 charges including arranging and facilitating child prostitution and multiple serious sexual assaults.

    One defendant, Ronald Potter, 78, of Coventry is also accused of offences in 2001 against a boy then aged 15.

    A Birmingham man who was detained at Guantanamo Bay says he's glad he'll get to see it close. 

    The White House has revealed its plans for closing the controversial Guantanamo Bay detention facility, one of the president's long-standing goals.

    A Birmingham mother says the shoes she bought for her children attending Baverstock Academy do comply with the school's new footwear policy.

    This morning her two sons were sent home from Baverstock Academy in Druids Heath.

    Anne-Marie Alder claims about 50% of pupils are affected.

    The school says parents were advised that after half term all children should wear black shoes to improve standards.

    Anne Marie says: "The school should be more interested in the fact that they are attending school rather than what they've got on their feet."

  9. Children refused entry into school over shoes, parents saypublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2016

    Parents attending an academy in Birmingham say some children were refused admission this morning because they were wearing the wrong shoes.

    Baverstock Academy in Druids Heath sent a letter to parents in January saying the school was tightening its uniform policy. , external

    Anne-Marie Alder who has four children at the school says she bought new shoes at the weekend but three of her children were sent home today, after a teacher told her they weren't considered "appropriate".

This gave everyone six weeks to prepare for the change.     The misconduct hearings into the leadership team at what was Park View Academy schools have been adjourned.

    More evidence will be heard at the end of May and the last week of June. 

    A ruling will be given sometime in July. Five senior teachers deny allegations of trying to include undue amount of religious influence in the education of pupils.

    Four face claims of appointing staff that might have assisted in the aim of Islamising the non faith schools. They deny the allegations.

    Earlier this month the M6 northbound was closed for almost 24 hours after a fatal collision involving a lorry and a car.

    The carriageway was closed at junctions five, Castle Bromwich and six, Spaghetti Junction on Thursday 4 February.

    A 26-year-old man from Birmingham has been jailed for life after he shook his baby daughter, causing her severe brain trauma.

    Sentencing, Mr Justice Jeremy Baker said Driukas had provided no explanation for the killing and it had been a deliberate infliction of force.

    "You intended her to suffer," the judge said.

    One of the West Midlands best known food writers has launched a stinging attack on the state of the Bullrings markets. 

    Paul Fulford, who for more than a decade was the Birmingham Mail's restaurant critic, is now an independent food blogger and says, external "the city's markets have become a shadow of their former glories", blaming "a lack of interest and vision" from Birmingham City Council.
