    There's a blaze at a tyre yard on Little Green Lane in Small Heath.

    I'm told a large mound of tyres measuring 20m by 10m is on fire and "good progress" is being made.

    More than 25 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a tyre yard in Small Heath.

    Steve Bell and Richard Scott tweeted these photos of the black smoke which can be seen from far away.

    The fire service is advising people nearby to keep their doors and windows closed.

    Firefighters are attending to a blaze at a tyre factory in Birmingham. 

    West Midlands Fire Service say they were called to Little Green Lane in Small Heath at 12:05.

    People living nearby are being asked to keep their windows and doors closed.

    Six crews are currently in attendance

    A father has been jailed for life after he violently shook his four-month-old daughter to death.

    At Birmingham Crown Court, Tomas Driukas was ordered to serve a minimum of 21 years.

    Deimante Driukaite, born three months prematurely, died from significant brain trauma. She also had bruising to her face and body and fractured ribs.

    Her 26-year-old father, Driukas (pictured), from Birmingham, denied murder but was convicted at the city's crown court.

  7. Drone, drugs and mobile phone found at HMP Oakwoodpublished at 11:19 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2016

    Drones are being used to smuggle drugs and phones into prisons, a Freedom of Information request has revealed.

    Figures obtained by the Press Association reveal 33 unmanned drone incidents took place in 2015 in the UK. 

    One of the biggest finds recorded was at HMP Oakwood, near Wolverhampton, in December, when a drone, drugs, a mobile phone, charger and USB cards, were found.

    A father is due to be sentenced for murder later, after he was found guilty of shaking his four-month-old daughter to death. 

    Tomas Driukas (pictured) caused Deimante Driukaite to have a significant brain trauma, bruising to her face and fractured ribs because she wouldn't stop crying, a court heard.

    Birmingham City Council has slashed spending on CCTV, but remains the second highest spending local authority in the country.

    Figures obtained by the civil rights group Big Brother Watch, external show it spent £5.6m over the past three years on its 422 cameras, compared to £14.3m over the previous four. 

    The council has not commented on the findings.

    Our top story: The demand for the meningitis B vaccine across Birmingham and the Black Country has soared in the past week. 

    One Birmingham GP says he's had more than 150 requests a day for the jab.

    It comes as more than 750,000 people have now signed an online petition, external calling for a vaccination against meningitis B to be given to all children, highlighted by the stories of two-year-old Faye Burdett and rugby player Matt Dawson's son.

    It was made available on the NHS last year, but only for newborns.
