    Black Country business leaders want to build 45,000 new homes over the next 10 years, using former industrial land. 

    They've used the phrase "Garden City" - not strictly what they have planned - as a way of attracting investment.

  5. Reported rail crime on the increase, says policepublished at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2016

    A campaign encouraging rail passengers to text police directly if they witness a crime has proved a success, with more than 500 incidents reported in the Midlands in the past year. 

    British Transport Police card

    The highest number of incidents related to begging, public order offences, sexual assaults and drunkenness. 

    The initiative has been running for three years and British Transport Police has received more than 32,000 texts from passengers.

  7. Three people cut from cars after head-on-collisionpublished at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2016

    Three people have had to be cut free from their cars after a head-on collision in Cradley Heath this afternoon. 

    Emergency services were called to Corngreaves Road at 15:00.

    West Midlands Fire Service tell me that an elderly man and woman were cut free from their car and taken to Russells Hall Hospital. 

    Another man's car roof was removed as he was freed from his car, before being taken to Sandwell Hospital for treatment.

  8. Blues reach 'significant' agreement with ex-owner Carson Yeungpublished at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2016

    Birmingham City may have taken a significant step towards the eventual sale of the football club following today’s announcement from parent company, Birmingham International Holdings Limited (BIHL) to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

    BIHL and the club have agreed with former owner Carson Yeung to end legal action between all parties, action that could have dragged on for a considerable period of time. 

    For his part, Mr Yeung has agreed not to sell or transfer any of his interests in the club or company until shares in BIHL resume trading - shares that have been suspended since December 2014.

    Potentially this could remove a major obstacle to the sale of a club that has become an increasingly attractive proposition to investors since stability was restored to the football team under manager Gary Rowett.

  9. Dentist admits illegal teeth whiteningpublished at 15:28 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2016

    A Birmingham man's been given a two-year conditional discharge by magistrates after admitting carrying out teeth whitening illegally at a city salon. 

    The General Dental Council says, external Dorian Kinderman pleaded guilty to the charges in 2015. 

    He was prosecuted by the council and was ordered to pay costs of £1,246 after ignoring warning letters from the GDC telling him to stop performing tooth whitening. 

    Natural Health Centre, in Kings Norton, says Kinderman no longer practises at the surgery and was self-employed on a temporary basis.

    There was an article in the Birmingham Mail this week where former Aston Villa manager John Gregory said the club should have signed me in the summer, external - and 78% of their fans agreed with him.

    I think Gregory has said that on numerous occasions, though, and the percentage of Villa fans to agree has gone up each time - when he first said it last summer, it was only about 20%. Read the full analysis on BBC Sport.

  11. Birmingham Airport delays: 'Slowly returning back to normal'published at 14:32 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2016

    Hundreds of passengers at Birmingham Airport have been plagued by delays this morning after "technical problems" on its baggage carousels.

    The airport says its operation is now slowly returning back to normal, though a number of outbound flights are delayed., external

  12. Home alone: 60 arrests made in the West Midlandspublished at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2016

    Sixty people were arrested by West Midlands Police accused of leaving their child or children at home alone, in the past year.

    An investigation by BBC Breakfast shows more than 500 arrests were made. 

    In law, there's no minimum age a child can be left on their own. Parents are advised to use their judgement, but they can be prosecuted if children are subjected to unnecessary suffering or injury to health.
