  3. Man arrested after appeal over serious sexual assault in Walsall town centrepublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

    A man, 27, has been arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault in Walsall.

    It follows a police appeal for information about the attack which happened behind Flan O’Brien’s in the town centre on Sunday 21 February.

    The West Midlands force says inquiries are continuing.

    Earlier we told you how a teenager had been shot dead in a Birmingham street.

    A man, 22, has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the 18-year-old was found in St Marks Crescent, Ladywood, at 18:45 GMT on Thursday.

    The victim, named locally as Kenichi Phillips (pictured), was from Birmingham but had moved away, said police.

    Birmingham-born Moeen Ali has hit the winning runs as England pulled off the biggest successful run chase in the short history of the ICC World T20 tournament.

    Joe Root earlier stole the show in the match against South Africa, with 83 runs from 44 balls. Worcestershire all-rounder Moeen earlier took two wickets as well.

    A failing maternity unit is to send births to a hospital nine miles away as it struggles to cope with demand.

    Around 500 births will be moved from Walsall Manor Hospital to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton after its maternity unit was judged "inadequate" by inspectors.

    The hospital said the measures were needed "to ensure the safety and stability of maternity services".

    The Conservative MP for Lichfield says people unfairly claiming disability allowance are costing the country more than £500m.

    Michael Fabricant says certain people claiming benefits are "taking the British taxpayer for a ride" and could work if they wanted.

    Listener Sarah Ramji contacted BBC WM after finding this 3ft long carcass - which appeared to be sheared in two - on her lawn in Hall Green, Birmingham, on Thursday morning. 

    She said she was "quite scared and amazed" to make the discovery and she was "still not sure what kind of animal" it was.
