  1. Watch: Drink-driver's lorry reverses on M6 tollpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 14 April 2016

    Here's video of the dangerous, drink-driving that landed a man in prison.

    It shows a lorry reversing south on the northbound carriageway near Norton Canes for around 800 metres, veering across the route and blocking all three lanes, external.

    Police say the driver was convicted of dangerous and drink-driving, for which he has been sentenced to six months in prison. He was also banned from driving for a year.

    Police are looking to identify these men in connection with investigations into "disorder during and after" last month’s football match between Wolves and Birmingham City. 

    Officers say the problems at the game on March 13 included bottle-throwing.

     A weather warning has been issued, external for heavy rain affecting areas of Birmingham and the Black Country this afternoon.

    The Met Office says hail and lightning as well as heavy rain could have localised impacts, producing standing water on roads and reducing visibility.

    The showers should die out by this evening. 

  4. Rail improvements in Bromsgrove not on trackpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 14 April 2016

    Major improvements to rail services in Bromsgrove have suffered further delays. 

    Electrification work, bringing more frequent services between the station and Birmingham, should have been completed by now but it is understood that the work won't be finished until late next year.

    Network Rail maintains that the work can only start after it opens a new station there next month.

    First time buyers in the West Midlands will need to earn more than £46,000 a year by 2020. 

    That's according to new research from the charity Shelter. They say it represents a 15% increase on the current salary needed to afford a home here. 

  10. Man jailed for sword attack on his wifepublished at 10:12 British Summer Time 14 April 2016

    A "controlling" husband who tried to kill his wife with a ceremonial sword before claiming she was injured by a burglar has been jailed for 19 years.

    Harjit Singh struck her over the head with the weapon and tried to strangle her on 22 October last year.

    The 46-year-old, of Edward Street, West Bromwich, was convicted of attempted murder at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

  11. Crash motorcyclist 'saved from fire by bystanders'published at 09:52 British Summer Time 14 April 2016

    A motorcyclist who was in a crash with a car avoided more serious injury because quick-thinking bystanders pulled him away from his bike when it burst into flames, said West Midlands Ambulance Service.

    The rider was thrown about 10 metres from the point of impact at the junction of Water Orton Lane and Cottage Lane in Minworth, Sutton Coldfield, on Wednesday.

    The 39-year-old suffered a dislocated shoulder, a suspected fracture to his collar bone and hip pain, but a service spokesman said his full leathers, crash helmet and boots prevented more serious injury.

    His bike (pictured) was "completely destroyed", the spokesman added.

    There's controversy over Wolves' new choice of sponsor, the payday loans company The Money Shop. 

    It's been involved in sponsorship at Molineux for seven years, and has a massive advert in what is now called the Sir Jack Hayward Stand, formerly the South Bank. Now its branding will appear across the club's shirts as well.

    Club CEO Jex Moxey said the firm had stuck with the club "through thick and thin" and was a "legitimate" lender.

    But season ticket holder Jamie Angus, a board member of Wolverhampton City Credit Union, said "serious questions" remained over The Money Shop's "unethical lending".
