    As well as a vigil being held in Birmingham's Gay Village tonight, Wolverhampton City Council is flying flags at half mast outside the Civic Centre.

    The council tweets: "Our thoughts are with Orlando and everyone affected by the despicable and sickening act of terror."

  2. Relocated Syrian family welcomed to Birminghampublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    Birmingham City Council welcomed a family of four refugees under the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation scheme today.

    They are the final group to arrive in Birmingham as part of the initial 50 refugees that the city council, with cross-party support, committed to taking, back in September 2015.

    The group, a mother with two sons and a daughter, arrived earlier today.

    A number of Birmingham residents held a vigil in September to say they would welcome refugees

    Refugee Action, an organisation with a long history of supporting refugees in the UK, will once again be helping to integrate the arrivals into their new home in Birmingham, as was the case with the previous groups.

    A new British Speedway Champion will be crowned tonight. 

    Former Wolves rider and current world champion Tai Woffinden (pictured) has won it for the past three years in a row, but has decided not to compete this year. 

    Wolves asset Kyle Howarth is among the 16-strong line up at the National Speedway Stadium in Belle Vue.

    A special wildflower garden in part of Birmingham has been unexpectedly mowed by the city council. 

    The grassland outside Fernside Gardens, in Moseley, had been derelict land, so locals decided to take it upon themselves to maintain it. 

    In a statement, the city council says it's not received a formal request to plant on the land and is urging anyone who wants to plant on council land to contact it first.

    A 12-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital with "suspected life-threatening injures" after being hit by a car in Cannock, say police.

    A candlelit vigil is being held in Birmingham's Gay Village this evening to remember the 50 people killed in the Orlando nightclub attack.

    Sandwell and West Birmingham has one of the highest levels of locum GPs in the country, according to data analysis by BBC News. 

    Almost 12% of GP posts in that area are filled by temporary staff, according to the Health and Social Care Information Centre.
