  2. Rail station opens nine months later than originally plannedpublished at 08:34 British Summer Time 12 July 2016

This morning I'm at Bromsgrove railway station, which has officially opened nine months later than planned.

If you compare it with the former station that was here it really is like chalk and cheese. The old station hardly had any parking and no ticket office.

But now the railway station has more than 300 car parking spaces, a ticket office, ticket machines and the platform is longer, which means trains with three carriages can now stop at the station.

It's a rather grey start to the day and it's going to stay that way. It will be a rather cloudy day, with outbreaks of rain in many parts.

Through the afternoon, showers will become well scattered and some may be heavy, especially towards the east where they may turn thundery, with highs of 16C (61F).

  9. Yeung 'can't obstruct any sale' of Birmingham Citypublished at 17:59 British Summer Time 11 July 2016

    Richard Wilford
    BBC WM

Carson Yeung's return to prison after failing to overturn his money-laundering conviction is little more than a postscript to his time in charge at Birmingham City.

Although he still holds shares in the club's parent company BIHL, he has entered a legal agreement not to obstruct any sale of the club by administrators Ernst & Young.

His upheld conviction also disqualifies him from being a director of Blues or any other English football club.

  11. The UK women seeking divorce through Sharia councilspublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 11 July 2016

    Victoria Derbyshire

The use of Sharia councils in the UK to settle disputes using Islamic religious law has been criticised for discriminating against women. With rare access, the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme looks at what takes place inside one such council.

"Is it not possible to forget all the things he has done to you?" one of three Islamic scholars asks Yasmeenah - not her real name - in a side room of Birmingham Central Mosque.

Yasmeenah has been in an arranged marriage since the age of 15, and says her husband has emotionally and physically abused her throughout the relationship.

  13. Athletics: Grabarz and Talbot take bronze at the weekendpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 11 July 2016

    Nick Clitheroe
    BBC Midlands Today

It was a cracking weekend for athletics as Great Britain won two relay titles on the final day of the European Championships in Amsterdam on Sunday.

More locally Robbie Grabarz already has an Olympic bronze medal from London and won the European title four years ago. The Birmingham-based high jumper was satisfied with his silver but knows that he may have to go higher than 2 metres 29 if he’s to be among the medals in Rio.

Danny Talbot completed our quintet of medallists but in less than satisfactory fashion.

The Birchfield Harrier actually crossed the line in fourth in the 200 metres but was later promoted to bronze when the winner Churandy Martina was disqualified for running out of his lane.

  16. Athletics: Midlands medallistspublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 11 July 2016

    Nick Clitheroe
    BBC Midlands Today

With a little over three weeks to go until Rio, this was just the shot in the arm Midlands athletics needed. Five medallists, two of them for the first time at a major championships.

Perhaps the most unexpected was the Birchfield Harrier Elliot Giles. His victory in the 800 metres at the British trials a fortnight ago was a shock, but to carry that form into the Europeans and finish millimetres off a silver medal was a huge leap forward for the 22 year old.

All the more impressive when you factor that he's fighting back from a couple of years blighted by the injuries he suffered in a motorbike accident.

    Elliot Giles and Julian Reid

Club mate Julian Reid was the other first-time winner but the triple jumper described his bronze in Amsterdam as bittersweet because he’s still chasing the Olympic qualifying standard and may now have to rely on the discretion of the selectors to be picked for the Games.
