    A man who was stabbed in Birmingham earlier this week has died, prompting a murder investigation.

    The attack happened in Summer Lane, Newtown, about 19:55 on Tuesday. 

    West Midlands Police say, external a 26-year-old was found with life-threatening injuries.

    Appealing for information, officers said a post-mortem was due to take place.

  6. Plans to move Kings Heath bobbie 'does not mean there will be no police'published at 16:36 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    West Midlands Police say Kings Heath High Street will still have a police presence - despite plans to move its only bobbie on the beat. 

    A petition has been launched after it emerged PC Andy Collis would be moving to Acocks Green in November. 

    But Birmingham East Superintendant Baz Javeed told BBC WM a community officer would still be based in Kings Heath and described the move as a positive for Acocks Green.

    He said: "Andy's been there 10 years and there are other areas that will clearly benefit from a man with his specialisms, skills and experience."

    A man has driven at a policeman who tried to arrest him.

    West Midlands Police said an officer tried to stop a vehicle near Bentley Bridge Retail Park in Wednesfield just after 11:00, suspecting the driver had no licence.

    "The car attempted to drive at the PCSO but no contact was made and he was uninjured − the car then drove off," a spokeswoman said.

  17. Man who kicked Albion fan in pre-game train fracas handed three-year match banpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    A football fan who attacked a West Bromwich Albion supporter on a train before a match has been banned from attending games for three years, police say, external.

    Murrey Holmes, 24, of Wonston Road, Southampton, was on his way to watch Albion versus Southampton in February last year when violence broke out on a service from Snow Hill. As the train approached The Hawthorns, Saints supporter Holmes jumped on the seats and kicked a West Brom fan, who received a cut to the head.  

    Holmes came forward following a media appeal to trace those involved in the brawl and admitted one count of affray, receiving a suspended eight-month prison sentence. Along with his match ban, he was also ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work and given a curfew.  

    Another man is awaiting trial accused of affray in connection with the same attack.

    At its height, 100 firefighters tackled the blaze at Hickory's Smokehouse in Wall Heath, near Dudley. 

    The Grade II-listed building was once a nightclub where the Beatles and many other famous names played.
