  1. Man hunt after stranger rapes woman in housepublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    A man hunt is under way after a stranger raped a woman in a house in Redditch. 

    Police said, external the attack took place at a property in the Mount Pleasant area.

    The man has been described as white, around 5'10'' tall and aged in his early 20s and was dressed all in grey.

    It happened at 21:00 on Monday, 15 August but details have only just released by detectives.

    A motorcyclist whose helmet ended up 50m from the scene of a rush hour crash with a car has sustained "multiple serious injuries and several fractures".

    It happened this morning on Saltwells Road, Netherton, at about 07:30.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said, external the injured man was given pain relief and oxygen before being taken to hospital.

    A Worcester man proposed to his girlfriend in a novel way - using a personalised Lego advert in front of a packed cinema.   

    Ben Anderson, 36, told his girlfriend Kirsten Dally they were going to Birmingham's Electric Cinema to see the new Jason Bourne film. 

    But secretly he'd hired a stop-motion animation expert to make an advert - that played before the film started - using Lego figures to document the important moments of their relationship. 

    It featured their first kiss, holidays and ended with him proposing... and she said yes.

    Hickory's Smokehouse in Wall Heath - where a "severe" fire has ripped through the thatched roof - has issued a statement via its Facebook page, external to say the team feels "absolutely devastated".

    "Firefighters have done an incredible job fighting the blaze and we are just waiting to speak to the police and fire Investigation experts to establish the cause.

    "Thanks so much for all of your support so far."

    Scientists at the University of Birmingham have found a way to recycle magnets used in many forms of modern technology.

    So-called rare earth magnets are found in everything from mobile phones to missiles.

    Although they are extremely strong they are vulnerable to corrosion (pictured).

    Scientists say their research could go from laboratory to factory floor in the next six months.

    A warning has been issued about a new scam offering people refunds on their council tax. 

    Birmingham residents have had phone calls from fraudsters telling them they have overpaid. The caller then offers to get the money back for a fee, followed by a request for bank details.

    Anyone receiving such a call has been urged by Chris Gibbs, service director for customer services at Birmingham City Council, not to disclose personal or financial information.

    BBC WM has been told that families are struggling to provide meals for children during the summer holidays. 

    A special project has been launched in the Black Country to support those kids missing out on the free school meals they get during term time. 

    The Holiday Kitchen at St. Martin's Church in Bilston offers activities as well as healthy meals.

    Reverand Raphael Martin, who runs it, said: "School holidays are prime time for malnutrition for children as families which rely on free school meals suddenly have to provide extra."

    A total of 14 fire engines are tackling a severe fire at a restaurant in the Black Country. 

    The A449 Kidderminster Road in Wall Heath has been closed by police while firefighters work to bring the flames under control at Hickory's Smokehouse.

    The hotel next door has been fully evacuated.
