    A Wednesbury woman left with a damaged liver and blood clots after a rollercoaster ride at Alton Towers crashed last year has called for it to be shut indefinitely after 30 people were trapped in a new incident.

  10. Pensioner loses savings in distraction burglarypublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    Police want to identify this pair in connection with a ruse by con men who talked their way into a pensioner's home and stole handbags containing savings. 

    It happened in Baldwin Street, Bilston; with the callers telling the victim they'd been sent by the council to carry out building work.

    The offence - one of several similar incidents reported recently in the Wolverhampton area - happened on 25 August, police say, external.

  14. Lucas and Bartley elected as Green Party co-leaderspublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    Caroline Lucas and Jonathan Bartley have been elected co-leaders of the Green Party of England and Wales in a job-sharing arrangement at the party's autumn conference in Birmingham.

    They saw off competition from five others to succeed Natalie Bennett, who is stepping down after four years.

    Ms Lucas, the Greens' only MP, was leader of the party between 2008 and 2012 while Mr Bartley is the party's work and pensions spokesman.

    Mr Bartley said it was a "great pleasure" to be in Birmingham, which was home to the Cadbury family, whose Quaker ways "showed the whole world how decent housing and a green environment were vital to everyone's wellbeing" when they set up Bournville.
