    It's understood Aston Villa, external have drawn up a 10-man shortlist of potential candidates to replace Roberto di Matteo.

    Former Blues boss Steve Bruce (pictured above) and current interim manager Steve Clarke are both on it, but the likes of Steve Cotterill, Tim Sherwood and Sam Allardyce are not. 

    A final decision isn't expected until the end of next week.

  3. Cadet force in 'Trojan Horse' school hailed as a successpublished at 09:34 British Summer Time 5 October 2016

    Staff at a Birmingham school that was once at the centre of the so-called Trojan Horse controversy say their new military cadet unit is so popular there's a waiting list. 

    Rockwood Academy -formerly Park View School - is now out of special measures and has been praised for the progress it's made.

    The defence secretary, Michael Fallon, visited the school and said the cadet force offers pupils real opportunities.

  4. Apology for breastfeeding 'error' in council leafletpublished at 08:46 British Summer Time 5 October 2016

    City of Wolverhampton Council has apologised for confusion caused by a breastfeeding leaflet which stated nursing mums couldn't feed their babies in the civic centre or the central baths. 

    The local authority says that is not the case and breastfeeding mothers are welcome in all of its buildings.

    The authority says it's taken steps to ensure the error is corrected in future editions of the leaflet.

  13. New bulbs for Sandwell will save £120,000 claims councilpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    New LED bulbs are being fitted to 5,000 streetlights across Sandwell.

    The council claims it will save it £120,000 a year on electricity bills. 

    The new bulbs, which use 74% less energy than standard bulbs, are being put in between now and next January. 

    The local authority says, external any money it can save will help it protect front-line services.

    Families who lost loved ones in the 1974 Birmingham pub bombings have been staging a peaceful protest outside the Conservative party conference today.

    Despite support expressed by the Prime Minister and the home secretary, they still haven't been told if they're to get legal aid so their lawyers can represent them at the reopening of the inquests into the deaths of 21 people.

    A Birmingham man involved in a series of turf war gang shootings in the city has been jailed for 27 years today. 

    Twenty-year-old Reial Philips, from Winson Green, pleaded guilty to a list of charges, including possessing a firearm, ammunition and drugs charges.

    The court heard the shootings left eight people injured and were part of an on-going feud between rival gangs in the city.

  19. Birmingham paramedic wants prison sentence for attackerspublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    A West Midlands Ambulance paramedic has told BBC WM , externalthe courts aren't tough enough with people who attack members of the emergency services. 

    Mick Duggan - who works in Birmingham and has been attacked himself in the past - thinks prison should be mandatory, with a minimum sentence of 12 months.

    He says a certain level of abuse is expected from people with metal health issues, but others cross a line.
