  5. "Mom's" the word, says MP after Parliament "sanitised" accentpublished at 09:22 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2016

    BBC WM

Do you say Mum - m-u-m - or Mom, m-o-m?

Sounding it with an "o" is not unusual in Birmingham and the Black Country and Jess Phillips, MP for Birmingham Yardley, is proud of the distinction - and is annoyed that Parliament has "sanitised" the way she says the word.

She says Hansard - the official record of parliamentary proceedings - has recorded her pronunciation of the noun as "Mum", with a "u".

    Jess Phillips
    Quote Message

When I say the word 'Mom' if I talk about my Mom or being a Mom, in the House of Commons they always write it m-u-m...it annoys me every time that they try and sanitise my regional accent."

    Jess Phillips, MP

Jess says she has now asked for it to be recorded with an "o".

I think it's fair to say the news of Gary Rowett's sacking yesterday afternoon came as a bit of shock to Blues' fans and the footballing world in general.

Rowett's seat was still warm when the club announced his replacement was none other than former West Ham boss and Chelsea striker Gianfranco Zola.

Here's what some of you made of the news...

West Brom v Swansea (20:00 GMT)

First thing's first. The team news.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis had named the same starting XI for five successive league matches - their longest run of having an unchanged side in the Premier League - but the Welshman is forced into changing his line-up tonight because of the suspension of Craig Dawson.

Jonas Olsson replaces Dawson, with Nacer Chadli coming in for Jonny Evans as Pulis plays a 4-5-1 formation.

West Brom XI: Foster, Nyom, McAuley, Olsson, Brunt, Fletcher, Yacob, Phillips, Morrison, Chadli, Rondon.

  19. 'West Brom are oozing confidence'published at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2016

West Brom v Swansea (20:00 GMT)

    Martin Fisher
    Match of the Day commentator

Consecutive home wins over fellow strugglers have breathed new belief into Bob Bradley's side but, unless they can start picking up regular points on the road, Swansea are unlikely to climb clear of the relegation zone anytime soon.

Thrashed 5-0 at Tottenham the last time they ventured out of Wales, they face a West Brom side oozing confidence in front of their own supporters having put seven goals past Burnley and Watford at The Hawthorns in recent weeks.

This newly discovered attacking prowess, allied to the traditional defensive strengths of any Tony Pulis side, makes Albion a real threat, meaning even a point for Swansea would represent a fabulous result.
