    Builders took down a wall brick by brick to free a swan that crash-landed in Birmingham and became wedged, the RSPCA says.

    The bird was trapped on a building site in Dovedale Road, suffering a cut wing and leg.

    It is being kept in the city's animal hospital for observation and is expected to make a full recovery.

    Suspected stolen power tools and three vehicles have been found after a police chase in south Staffordshire. , external

    Staffordshire Police say a green Ford Focus, thought to have cloned number plates, failed to stop for their officers on Friday night near Gailey. 

    The force say they pursued the vehicle and it "came to a natural stop" on the A5 just past junction 12 of the M6 and two men ran off from the car. 

    Officers say they arrested them at a nearby site where they also found the suspected stolen vehicles and suspected stolen power tools.

    A BBC investigation names the man accused of organising the terror attack that killed 38 tourists in Tunisia including three generations of the same family. 

    In documents obtained by us, Chamseddine al Sandi is described as the “mastermind” behind the beach killings near Sousse in 2015. 

    Inquests begin next week into the deaths of British tourists, including Joel Richards, from Wednesbury, who died alongside uncle Adrian Evans and grandfather Patrick Evans.

    So-called Islamic State recruited the gunman who opened fire on the beach. Seifeddine Rezgui was killed at the scene, but he did not plan the attack alone. 

    We have obtained testimony from suspects alleging the organiser was Chamseddine al Sandi. He is now believed to be at large in Libya.

  11. Three arrests before and during Stoke City's FA Cup tie with Wolvespublished at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2017

    A 16-year-old from Stafford has been arrested after a flare was set off during Stoke City's FA Cup tie against Wolves, external on Saturday. 

    Staffordshire Police say the teenager has been released on bail as enquiries continue.

    The force also says two men from Wolverhampton and Brierley Hill were arrested before the game in connection with an assault on a member of door staff at a pub in Stoke-on-Trent. 

    They've also been released on bail.

  12. Walsall swimming pools reopen after 'substantial' loss of waterpublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2017

    Two Walsall swimming pools will reopen to the public as normal from 18:00 today after a "substantial" leak prompted council bosses to close them.

    The baths, at Bloxwich Active Leisure Centre, were closed on Sunday when, according to leisure chief councillor Julie Fitzpatrick, a "technical problem overnight on Saturday" meant "a substantial amount of water" was lost.

    Both pools will first reopen for swimming lessons from 16:00 before the general public is again admitted two hours later.

    Cllr Fitzpatrick apologised to those that had been inconvenienced.

    Britain's Johanna Konta and Dan Evans have progressed to the second round at the Sydney International.

    Unseeded Evans, from Solihull, won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, against Thiago Monteiro of Brazil.

    Sixth seed and British number one Konta beat Australian Arina Rodionova 6-3, 6-4 in her opening match of the tournament.

    A Walsall man who appeared on Saturday's edition of The Voice has told BBC WM it was a "dream come true". 

    All of the show's judges "turned around" - the seat-spinning sign of approval - on hearing Jason Jones's rendition of Zayn Malik's Pillow Talk. He opted to go with will.i.am as his mentor.

    The town centre office block, once used by Inland Revenue, has been empty for many years. It was bought at auction by Avenbury Dudley Ltd for £800,000, according to the Express & Star, external in October 2015. 

    The following month, the Birmingham Post reported , externalAvenbury planned to demolish the building to pave the way for a £50m retail and leisure development. Midlands Business News, external reported a planning application had been submitted to Dudley Council in March 2016.

    Dudley councillor Khurshid Ahmed told the BBC: "We are in regular dialogue with the developer and will be meeting with them again in the New Year." 

    Avenbury's spokesman told us: "Things are still happening behind the scenes but [there is] nothing to announce yet."
