    A Tamworth mother-of three was relaxing on a sun lounger with her partner when she was shot in the chest and neck by a terrorist gunman in a Tunisian hotel massacre, an inquest has heard.

    Suzanne Davey and her partner Scott Chalkley, of Chaddesden, Derby, were killed when Seifeddine Rezgui opened fire on the beach at the Mediterranean resort of Sousse in June 2015.

    Ms Davey, aged 43,would have died very quickly after losing consciousness from being shot in the chest and neck, the court heard. 

    Mr Chalkley, 42, was shot in the chest, abdomen and pelvis, a post mortem showed. The couple had met while they both worked at Severn Trent Water. 

    Ms Davey's son Conor Fulford remembered her as caring, supportive and always willing to solve any problem with her "do-good attitude."   

    Speaking outside court, Conor Fulford said the inquests were "important" in allowing his family to move on.

    A burst pipe that created a sinkhole in a Birmingham road last year is now being repaired, water firm Severn Trent has said. 

    Thousands of gallons of water flooded Harborne Lane in Selly Oak after a water main burst in November

    About 10 homes were damaged by the incident, with numerous cars trapped in the water.

    Severn Trent said background work is now complete and repairs are expected to be finished by mid-February.

  3. HMP Birmingham riot: Prison 'back to normal'published at 14:12 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    HMP Birmingham is "back to normal" following a riot in December, according to the chair of the prison's Independent Monitoring Board. 

    Rioting prisoners took over four wings over of HMP Birmingham last month, setting fire to stairwells, destroying paper records and causing damage put at £2m.

    Roger Swindells, chair of the Independent Monitoring Board at HMP Birmingham told BBC Midlands Today: "Things are pretty much back to normal.

    "Everything I would expect to see is happening. There's some good work being done by officers, people are pretty settled."

    A row between a Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and his ex-deputy, who was found guilty of serious misconduct, has been resolved "amicably", the PCC's office says.

    Yvonne Mosquito, the West Midlands Deputy PCC, was suspended after visiting a murder victim's family in Ladywood without informing officers. 

    Following a disciplinary hearing in May 2016, representatives for Ms Mosquito said she would be appealing the ruling and it emerged in December, an Employment Tribunal had been provisionally listed to take place in May.

    joint statement today said, external "all outstanding matters" had been resolved.

  7. Council seek soldiers' relatives over naming streetspublished at 13:24 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    Lichfield District Council is hoping to track down relatives of six men who were killed during World War Two so they can name streets after them. 

    The proposal for street names would be for the new development at Hay End Lane in Fradley.

    The suggested street names are: McAlister Row, Sankey Grove, Brindle Lane, Buckley Croft, Ashwood Lane and Salt Way.

    The council is responsible for street naming and wants to speak to relatives for gain consent for the street names.   

    The council want to speak to relatives of: 

    • Sgt Gilbert McAlister and Sergeant Ronald Sankey both from the Royal Australian Air Force
    • Sgt Alfred Brindle,  RAF volunteer 
    • Sgt Howell Buckley, RAF volunteer 
    • Sgt Albert Ashwood, RAF volunteer 
    • Tractor driver Arthur Salt, who worked at RAF Lichfield

    West Midlands Ambulance Service, external has become the first NHS Foundation Trust to be rated "outstanding" by the Care Quality Commission.  

    The reports states that between April 2015 and March 2016 the trust was the only ambulance trust to meet all national targets for response times for the most immediately life threatening calls and answering 999 calls.

  9. Officers hunt missing prisonerpublished at 12:50 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    A man serving an indeterminate sentence for threats to kill, robbery, assaulting a police officer and possessing a mobile phone in prison has absconded. 

    Police say, external Michael Wilson, 38, left the open prison section of HMP Hewell in Redditch at about 06:00 last month to go for a walk but did not return.

    He is described as black, 5ft 10in and has a gold, capped tooth.

    A statement from Scott Chalkley's family says he and his partner Suzanne Davey were on  holiday in Sousse, Tunisia, to celebrate moving in together. 

    The pair, who worked for Severn Trent Water, met in 2013 and were killed in the terror attack of 2015.

    The son of a woman who was killed in a terror attack in Tunisia last year has told an inquest "knowing she was with someone who made her happy" gave the family "comfort".

    Suzanne Davey, from Tamworth, and her partner Scott Chalkley were among 38 people killed in a grenade and gunfire attack on the beach resort of Sousse in June 2015.

  12. HMP Birmingham riot: Prisoners 'used gym equipment' during disorderpublished at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    Gym equipment left on prison wings was largely to blame for the level of damage caused during a riot at HMP Birmingham, the BBC has been told.

    Last month, inmates caused damage estimated at £2m in what was described as the worst riot of its kind since that at Strangeways jail 26 years ago.

    Brian Clarke, former chair of the Prison Officers Association, said weightlifting equipment had previously been put on wings, due to a "lack of opportunity" for inmates to go to the gym, caused by "staff shortages". 

    "During the riot those weightlifting facilities, those metal bars, were used to smash down doors, smash chains that held the perimeter of those wings securely," he said.

  14. HMP Birmingham riot: 'Large numbers of prison officers going off sick'published at 11:55 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    There are claims today that large numbers of prison officers have been going off sick at HMP Birmingham due to levels of violence in the jail. 

    Last month, a riot at the prison saw inmates gain control over four wings causing damage estimated at more than £2m.

    Brian Clarke, former chair of the Prison Officers Association, told the BBC there had been a spike in absences since the riot, with dozens of officers off.

    He claimed G4S, which runs HMP Birmingham, were "totally unprepared for that".

    "That's a no-brainer, you have a massive incident like that in your place of work, people are going to be affected,"  he said.

    We are awaiting a response from G4S.
