    The appeal against a red card given to Wolves' player Carl Ikeme at the Norwich game on Saturday has been rejected, but the length of his suspension has been reduced.

    Ikeme was sent off for pushing Norwich player Wes Hoolahan after a penalty had been given against him. 

    The dismissal has been upheld, but the panel agreed that the punishment was excessive so Ikeme's ban has been reduced from three games to two.

     He'll now miss the FA Cup tie at Liverpool and the League game at Barnsley.

  2. FirstGroup and Trenitalia announce HS2 franchise bidspublished at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

    Transport companies First Group and Trenitalia are to jointly bid to run services on the HS2 high-speed rail network.

    The firms have formed joint ventures to bid for the East Midlands and the West Coast partnership franchise, which includes HS2 trains between London and the West Midlands from 2026.

    FirstGroup currently operates Great Western Railway, TransPennine Express and Hull Trains.

    The West Coast franchise is currently run by Virgin Trains as a joint venture between Stagecoach and Virgin.  

  3. Demolition work starts on leisure centrepublished at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

    Work has begun on demolishing the Wyre Forest Glades Leisure Centre in Kidderminster to make way for new development. 

    The interior of The Glades, which closed last July after 30 years, has already been dismantled. 

    It was replaced by Wyre Forest Leisure Centre at Silverwoods.

  4. Arsonist disrupts almost 200 train journeyspublished at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

    Almost 200 train services in and out of Birmingham New Street were disrupted when signalling cables were set alight.

    Passengers were delayed by more than 6,000 minutes in total with 46 trains being cancelled and a further 40 services cut short, British Transport Police said.

    Officers are searching for the arsonist, who started the fire 18:45 on Friday, on the line between Garrison Lane and Garrison Street bridges in Bordesley, Birmingham.

    Det Insp Gareth Davies said: “This is not a victimless crime; thousands of people were affected by this mindless act of vandalism and we will never know the true cost of the delays caused by this incident." 

  5. Wendy Mann murder: Family welcome 'some comfort' from jury's guilty verdict todaypublished at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

    Leroy Sterling has today been found guilty of the murder of his ex-partner Wendy Mann in West Bromwich in 2015 and an attempt to murder her new lover Trevor Tyndale.

    The 63-year-old Sterling, of Guns Lane, West Bromwich, was jailed for life with a minimum of 21 years.

    Ms Mann's family issued a statement outside Wolverhampton Crown Court: "We are happy with the verdict here today. Although it won't bring Wendy back it will bring a sense of closure to our lives.

    "The verdict will not bring Wendy back but it will bring us some comfort that someone has faced justice for this terrible act and her memory will remain honoured."

  6. Driver and motorcyclist left with serious injuries after collisionpublished at 16:05 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

    Two men suffered serious injuries after a collision in Water Orton last night.

    A car hit a tree and a motorcyclist came off his bike at the junction of Minworth Road and Water Orton Lane, at 10:00 PM.

    The car driver, in his 20s, sustained multiple serious injuries and was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

    The motorcyclist, in his 30s, suffered a serious leg injury and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

  9. WW2 aircraft made in Longbridge to return to the skiespublished at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

    A £3.5m project is under way to restore a historic World War Two bomber to its former glory.

    The Lancaster, known as Just Jane, was built by Austin Motors in Longbridge in April 1945 and is considered one of the most well-known aircraft Britain has ever produced.

    During the restoration process, the aircraft will have to be taken to pieces, with every component being checked before being put back together again.

    The East Kirkby Aviation Centre, in Lincolnshire, is behind the restoration project and hopes to see the Lancaster flying again by 2020.

    Championship side Birmingham City have signed defender Dan Scarr from non-league neighbours Stourbridge.

    Scarr, 22, who starred in Stourbridge's run to this season's FA Cup third round, has signed on a two-and-a-half year contract, for an undisclosed fee.

    More details about a stabbing on a bus in Handsworth, Birmingham, last night have been released.

    "It would appear he (the victim) was stabbed in the abdomen and back area, several times, but it's really too early to speculate on where those blows landed and the amount of times, at this stage," a police spokesman said.

    The weapon thought to have been used in the attack - a folding pocket knife - has not yet been recovered.

    Police are appealing for four passengers to come forward who immediately disembarked from the bus after the attack to come forward.

    A man stabbed to death on a Birmingham bus was knifed "several times" in front of other passengers on the top deck.

    The victim and the suspected attacker were sat alongside each other, on opposite sides of the aisle on the 11A bus, when an argument started leading to blows being exchanged, police said.

    It's not thought the two men knew each other.

    "It very quickly became physical and clearly the one male has over-powered the other one and there's a number of blows been exchanged," a police spokesman added..

    The stabbing took place as the bus travelled along Rookery Road, Handsworth, last night.

    Police have opened a murder inquiry after a man was stabbed to death on a bus in Birmingham.

    And it's claimed Warwickshire company Vivarail's plans to run former London Underground trains on the Midlands rail network are still on course, despite a fire during testing last month.

    A campaign is underway to repair the memorial of one of the pioneers of the British motorcycle industry who was from Birmingham.

    James Lansdowne Norton was a designer, inventor and manufacturer of the Norton motorcycles who died in 1925 and is buried at Lodge Hill Cemetery in Selly Oak. 

    Wolverhampton-born Colin Kelly travelled over from his home in Canada to pay his respects at Norton's grave and described the memorial as "covered in weeds, with blowing garbage all over the place."

    The Norton Owners Club in Shenstone are trying to track down his family so work can be carried out to fix the memorial.

    A spurned man has been found guilty of murdering a mother-of-three children and attempting to murder her new lover.

    Wendy Mann's body was found on her kitchen floor in West Bromwich in August 2015.

    Leroy Sterling, 63, of Guns Lane, was found guilty of murder and the earlier attempted murder of her lover, Trevor Tyndale, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

    Pathologists found multiple fractures in her neck, a pattern "commonly found in people strangled," the jury heard earlier in the trial.
