    A robber armed with a handgun failed to intimidate the shopkeeper he threatened.

    With the weapon pointing at him, and another man bundled into the premises at gunpoint, the worker grabbed what police described as "repellent spray" and squirted it in the robber's eyes, forcing him to flee.

    CCTV released on Thursday shows the events unfolding at Kobani Stores in West Bromwich Street, Walsall, just before midnight on 9 January.

    Police, who are searching for the gunman and two suspected accomplices at the door, have commended the bravery of the shopkeeper, 39, during a "terrifying experience".

    A man who was seriously hurt after his motorbike crashed in Lichfield could have been more seriously injured, but for his protective gear, external, paramedics say.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says his full leathers and helmet protected him.

    It says no other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the crash on Eastern Avenue this morning.

    Birmingham City boss Gianfranco Zola says he's not afraid to change a winning team as they go to Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.

    Zola's side won for the first time in 11 games last weekend but the Italian has told BBC WM he won't necessarily stick to the same team or style.

    A man's been flown by air ambulance to hospital after the crash in Lichfield this morning. 

    West Midlands Ambulance Service say they were called at 07:27 to the A5192 Eastern Avenue to what's thought to have been a crash between a motorbike and a barrier. 

    Paramedics say they had reports the victim had come off the bike and they say he's suffered what look to be serious injuries. 

    They add that the Midlands Air Ambulance has taken him to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

    A woman has died in a "tragic accident" at a railway station this morning, the ambulance service says.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says it was called to Barnt Green station in Worcestershire shortly before 06.55 this morning.

    The woman died at the scene after being hit by a train.

    Train services between Bromsgove and Birmingham New Street were delayed or cancelled this morning while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

    A Punjabi film shot in Birmingham will get its premiere in West Bromwich tonight. 

    Filming

    The romantic comedy called "Mahi NRI" or "My Beloved Non Resident Indian" was filmed at a number of locations in the city as well as parts of the Black Country. 

    The director decided to film in Birmingham after moving to the city and falling in love with it.

  10. Fly-tippers given cold shoulder over 21 dumped freezerspublished at 09:08 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2017

    More than 20 fridges and freezers have been dumped on a country road in Walsall. 

    The fly tipping on Barr Lakes Lane was reported on Monday afternoon, with the authority clearing the 21 devices on the same day. 

    Julie Fitzpatrick from Walsall Council is appealing for the public's help to track down the culprits.

    A crash involving a motorbike has closed a road in Lichfield this morning. 

    Staffordshire Police say the A5192 Eastern Avenue's been shut both ways between Dimbles Lane and the A51 Western By-Pass. 

    They say the air ambulance has been called in.

    A man has been charged with murdering his partner who arrived at a doctor's surgery with stab wounds and died a short while later.

    Police were called to Rowley Healthcare on Hawes Lane, Rowley Regis, at about 15:50 on Monday.

    A woman, who has been identified by police as Tina Billingham, 54, was taken to hospital where she died from her injuries.

    Ronald Cooke, 54, of Granville Road, Cradley Heath, is due to appear before Dudley Magistrates' Court later.
