  6. Beach attack inquest: 'No advice from holiday company'published at 13:46 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2017

    Richard Galpin
    BBC World Affairs reporter

The inquest into the deaths of 30 British tourists in the 2015 Tunisia beach terror attack has heard that two of the victims, a former Birmingham City footballer and his wife, had been told by the Thomson holiday company that it was still safe to go to the resort near Sousse, despite an attack earlier that year in the capital Tunis.

Elaine and Denis Thwaites' son-in-law, Daniel Clifford, who had helped them choose the holiday, told the inquest he had advised Elaine to go into the Thomson shop for a face-to-face talk with one of the travel agents after they heard about the 2015 attack.

He said he remembered her saying she'd been told it was still safe to go and she trusted this advice.

He also said she had not been told by the travel agent about the updated Foreign Office advice about there being a high risk of terrorist attack in Tunisia including in areas where there were foreigners.

Mr Clifford also said that none of the emails the Thwaites had received from Thomson had any reference to the Foreign Office advice website and that the printed holiday confirmation documents, which did refer to the website, only arrived at their home after they had been killed.

    The inquest continues.
