    Drug users in Birmingham should be allowed to inject themselves in specially-supervised "shooting galleries", according to local medics.

    Last year, there were more than 50 drug-related deaths in the city and there are calls to copy a pilot scheme in Glasgow, where those injecting heroin will be given a safe supervised space with clean needles.

    Top US athletes will use Birmingham for their training camp ahead of this summer’s IAAF World Championships in London, the city council has announced.

    Councillor Ian Ward, the authority's deputy leader, said the camp would "provide a valuable economic impact for the city" and the stars would inspire young athletes in the area too.

    The announcement comes after Birmingham’s staging of the Müller Indoor Grand Prix, where Sir Mo Farah took victory in the 5,000m.

    Two more teenagers have been arrested in connection with a series of stun gun attacks on women drivers.

    Both aged 16, the boys were arrested at their home addresses in Moseley and Balsall Heath on Monday on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.

    A suitcase containing several sets of machetes, knives, hammers and mobile phones was found at one address, police said, external.

    Three women were shocked with electrical devices in four days in Moseley and Kings Heath between 6 and 10 February. 

    A 14-year-old boy has already been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

    It is claimed deep cuts to council services will still be needed despite council tax increases at nearly all of England's local authorities.

    The Local Goverment Association says social care services for people who are older or disabled are at breaking point and will swallow up the extra money raised. 

    We already know Walsall and Dudley council are planning 4.99% increases.

    The government insists it is giving more money to councils.

    There are calls for a drug consumption room to be opened in Birmingham so addicts can inject illegal drugs safely under supervision. 

    In 2016 there were more than 50 drug-related deaths in the city. 

    Carl Price, 36, from the Bromford estate, near Castle Vale, was a drug user for 17 years and has now been clean for two.

    He said: "People are going to use those drugs regardless of whether there are these rooms or not. 

    "I know some of the rooms I used to use were not healthy for myself or other members of the public."

    Blues' 4-1 home loss to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday was the heaviest of the nine defeats in 14 games City have suffered since Zola replaced Gary Rowett as boss in December.

    Since Zola took charge, the Blues have collected six points from a possible 36 in the Championship to slip to 14th in the table, when they had been seventh and level on points with sixth when former manager Gary Rowett was sacked.

    Mark Rogers took over the role in 2014 after seven years at Solihull borough. 

    He's dealt with the fallout from the so-called Trojan Horse affair, where it was alleged hardline Muslims conspired to take over city schools' governing boards.

    And he faced pressure from government to improve services and oversee spending cuts.  

    The budget will be set at a meeting of the full council on 28 February.

    Another five pound note estimated to be worth £50,000 due to a tiny, engraved portrait of Hampshire novelist Jane Austen has been found.

    It is the third such discovery across the UK, meaning that just one more note is outstanding.

    The fivers are the handiwork of Birmingham micro-artist Graham Short.

    He spent a note in each of the four home nations and said the latest find was in Northern Ireland - with only England yet to stake a claim to cash featuring 5mm pictures of the author.
