  19. Patient told she would have breast cancer without operations. published at 17:56 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

A patient under the care of breast cancer surgeon Ian Paterson, at Solihull Hospital, told a court he diagnosed her with Dercum's disease and told her there was no known cure.

Judith Conduit told jurors the surgeon told her the other two ladies he knew who had the same condition had had mastectomies.

He also told her that without the operation in 2001 she would "without a doubt" have breast cancer and he assured her he had removed all her breast tissue.

However in 2008, after finding another lump, she was told it was benign and that, despite being told otherwise, she had breast tissue left.

A breast surgery expert told the court he thought the mastectomy was too much surgery for the condition and the condition had been mis-labelled.

Mr Paterson, of Castle Mill Lane, Ashley, Altrincham, Greater Manchester, who was formerly employed by Heart of England NHS Trust and also practised at Spire Healthcare, denies 20 counts of wounding with intent.
