    Dozens of landlords have been fined under new rules forcing them to carry out immigration checks on tenants.

    New figures show that 62 landlords were issued with fines in the first eight months after the Right to Rent scheme was rolled out across England last year.

    The policy was initially trialed in Birmingham and the Black Country before being adopted nationally. Landlords falling foul of the rules face fines of up to £3,000.

    Warwickshire boss Ashley Giles admits that his ageing Bears squad is already facing a relegation "scrap" after making an awful start to the season.  

    With two games fewer this summer, in the reduced eight-team top flight, but still two relegation places to fill, simply staying up is every side's first priority, but with just three bonus points earned from their first two games, the Bears are already playing catch-up.

    "Staying in Division One is a good target for us," Giles said.  

    "That's where we have to aim, whether there's still some hangover from issues last year, we've got to forget about that. It's about fronting up. We're in a scrap now.  

    "We've been rocked by Surrey and now by Yorkshire. We can't go on getting beaten up. Nobody enjoys that.

    "It's pretty painful. I'm not sure you could get a much worse start to the season. With the line-up we have, we should be doing much better."

    Londoners work an average of 100 hours a year more than the rest of the UK, according to new data.

    The Office of National Statistics (ONS) figures, external show the average working week in London is 33 hours, the longest since the 2008 financial crisis.

    The average working week in the UK - including part-time work - is 31 hours, according to the figures.

    The West Midlands' average working week has meanwhile shot up by nearly a day from 2008 to 2016 - to 31.5 hours from 30.7.

    Harry Redknapp's appointment as Birmingham City's new manager was announced just 16 hours after Gianfranco Zola's resignation - the former Spurs and West Ham boss has told Talksport his deal is until the end of the current season.

    Redknapp, who has also managed QPR and Portsmouth and will be assisted by former Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill, told Talksport: "My wife said to me 'are you mad or what'? But I get fed up sitting around doing nothing.

    "It's a real challenge. I'll come and live up there until the end of the season and if I keep them up then I'll sit down and talk about next season.

    "It's not really a risk. They have won two out 22. I haven't got a magic wand.

    "I'm not going to turn them into Real Madrid. We need a win."

    Work begins this morning on major roadworks on one of the West Midlands' busiest road junctions. 

    Restrictions will be in place on the raised area of the M5 at J1 at West Bromwich to where it joins the M6 - which will mean disruption for commuters.
