West Midlands Police confirmed a 28-year-old man was detained in connection with reports of a man with a knife in central Birmingham.
The force said it was called to Corporation Street at about 15:15.
No injuries have been reported.

Disruption between Rugeley and Walsall for train passengers is set to end, but only at the end of the bank holiday weekend.
The Chase line is being electrified by Network Rail in a £100m project, external and, since 13 August, foundation works have taken place on the line.
As a result, it's been shut between Rugeley Trent Valley and Walsall with London Midland laying on replacement buses.

A new, two-week bin collection schedule has been released by Birmingham City Council as it tries to catch-up with a backlog of rubbish following seven weeks of strikes.
