I was put on this corridor on a trolley along with 50 other patients. We all lined up head to toe effectively, with hardly a gap between us. I was there for 13 and a half hours, drifting in and out of consciousness."

In a statement, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals said the A&E target was not just the responsibility of the emergency department.

University Hospitals of North Midlands Trust says it's one of the busiest, but is working hard to meet targets, including adding 45 extra beds in Stoke, and looking to move more elective surgery to Stafford to protect it from cancellations.

    Quote Message

Our local health and social care economy faces real challenges in improving the flow of patients through the whole NHS in the North Midlands, from admission to discharge, with many patients who are medically fit waiting in a hospital bed to go to their next place of care. This impacts on waiting times in A&E and causes delayed operations for patients as surgical beds are used to cope with emergency pressures."
