    Shrewsbury Town could get its safe standing zone installed as soon as January after raising the money needed to pay for it, the club says.

    He said he hoped there would be a gap in the fixture list, while the team plays away from home, to allow the work to be carried out.

  7. University staff complete charity run for Tunisian terror victimpublished at 18:54 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Among those taking part in the Great Birmingham Run this weekend were staff from the University of Worcester who completed the challenge in honor of student Joel Richards killed in the Tunisian terror attack.

    Joel, from Wednesbury, died alongside uncle Adrian Evans, grandfather Patrick Evans and 35 others in near Sousse in 2015.

    Four staff completed the course, raiding funds for Smile for Joel, the charity set up by Joel's family to support support the loved ones of terror victims.

    Charlie Bassett, Mark Kilburn, Steve Harborne and Neil Laurenson all took to the streets to raise funds.

    The bypass would run from Ellesmere Road, north of Shrewsbury, to the Churncote Island on the A5 in the west.

    The road will cost £104m and Shropshire Council is asking the government to fund about 80% of that.

    Once this public consultation is complete, it plans to make its bid for the funding in December and if it's successful, a planning application could be submitted in 12 months time.

    The council, which is working with the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership, says the road would ease congestion in Shrewsbury and surrounding towns and it hopes to open the bypass in spring 2022.

    In the Imbibe Drinks List of the Year competition St Paul's managed to beat off competition from London's Mr Fogg's Gin Parlour to claim the top prize.

    Government legal advisers are to review the sentencing of a Shropshire man who caused the death of an 11-year-old girl.

    Roger Goodall was over the drink-drive limit when his Range Rover collided with Olivia-Violet Reeves on Mytton Oak Road in Shrewsbury, in June.

    The Attorney General's Office has confirmed it will examine the four-and-a-half year jail term imposed on the 77-year-old, so see whether it was too lenient.

  17. 'Diet-pill' death girl 'sent text saying she knew she was going to die'published at 17:25 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Three people face trial next year accused of killing a student by supplying her with a potentially fatal dose of a slimming pill.

    Eloise Parry, 21, from Shrewsbury, died in hospital on 12 April after becoming unwell. She sent a text message saying she knew she was going to die, her inquest heard in 2015.

    The inquest concluded the death of Ms Parry was as a result of an accidental drugs overdose.

    Fiona Parry, Elosie's mother, said her daughter had suffered from bulimia.

    A post-mortem report read at the inquest revealed the cause of death as dinitrophenol toxicity.

    Drivers who ignore no entry signs in Stafford town centre will be given £100 fixed penalty notices in future.

    Staffordshire Police says it has tried handing out warnings to motorists who ignore the large notices at the junction of Mill Bank and South Walls telling them not to use the bus or taxi-only routes.

    But, the force says drivers are still using Mill Bank as a short cut.

    An elderly lady, hit by a car outside Sainsbury's in Kenilworth, Warwickshire has died, police say.

    The 93-year-old was taken to hospital after the incident on Warwick Road, at about 12:30 on Thursday, 12 October, but died on Sunday.

    Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
