  2. Driver killed in three-car collisionpublished at 08:55 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    One person has died and two others injured in a crash.

    The accident took place shortly before 20:00 on Heybarnes Road in Small Heath, Birmingham.

    The driver of one car, said to be badly damaged, died at the scene whilst fire crews worked for around 40 minutes to free the passenger, a man in his 20s.

    The driver of a second car, a woman in her 40s, sustained minor injuries.

    West Midlands Ambulance service said it got several calls to the scene.

  3. Fewer West Midlands MPs proposed under boundary changespublished at 08:32 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    A revised map of parliamentary constituencies could see six fewer MPs in the West Midlands.

    The Boundary Commission has allocated the West Midlands 53 consituencies, down from 59.

    Four cross-county constituencies have been proposed; Birmingham Northfield, Coventry South and Kenilworth, Ludlow and Leominster, and Malvern and Ledbury.

    The proposed changes will now go through an eight week consultation.

    A national award for ceramics and a £52m investment in the arts have been announced as part of Stoke-on-Trent's bid to become the UK City of Culture 2021.

    Judges are visiting the Spode Museum Heritage Centre, where they'll be shown the largest collection of blue-transfer pieces.

    Stoke is up against Coventry, Sunderland, Swansea and Paisley for the title.

    Burton Albion Football Club have reported a record profit of more than £1.3m after their promotion to the Championship 18 months ago.

    It's the first time the club has played in the second tier of English football.

    Promotion helped their profits rise dramatically from just over £160,000 in the previous financial year.

  7. Blown-off roof closes Dudley roadpublished at 07:52 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    A damaged roof has closed a road in Dudley, causing traffic delays.

    The A4100 High Street in Quarry Bank is shut in both directions. Police last night said a roof had blown off a building.

    The road is closed between Park Road and Oak Street.

  8. Hundreds of new rail carriages orderedpublished at 07:49 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    An order for hundreds of new rail carriages has been announced today by Abellio - the company that will take over the running of trains from London Midland in December.

    It's hoped the carriages will help to reduce overcrowding on the busiest routes, including Birmingham's Cross City line and the London Euston line.

    The company promised to bring in 400 new carriages by 2021 and space for an extra 85,000 passengers on rush-hour services when its takeover was announced.

    In 2014, a London Euston to Crewe service was the most overcrowded rail service in England and Wales, the DfT said.

    Kevin Nunes was shot dead in Pattingham, near Wolverhampton, 15 years ago.

    The men jailed for his murder were released after a catalogue of police mistakes came to light.

    His partner has told the BBC that she’s been “massively” let down.

    The police watchdog - the IPCC - has said Staffordshire Police is guilty of collective failings but individuals are not to blame.

    There's disruption on the rails between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury due to an obstruction on the track between Wellington and Shrewsbury.

    As a result, trains are having to run at a reduced speed and may be cancelled or delayed.

    Elsewhere, there's a fault with the signalling system, external between Lichfield Trent Valley and Stafford causing disruption to services between these two stations.
