    Shrewsbury Town have got the money they need to create a safe seating area at their stadium.

    The club's Fans Parliament supporters group set up a fundraising appeal, external in August and passed its revised target of £62,500 this morning, after a donation from betting company FansBet.

    The football club itself has also contributed £20,000 to the appeal, which was also supported by over 1,000 people.

    The plan is to install over 500 rail seats in the ground.

    Train-maker Bombardier says it will be creating another 300 jobs in the next six to nine months after winning the contract for making trains for the new West Midlands rail franchise.

    The Derby company will supply rolling stock for the company taking over the service from London Midland.

    The £550m order means that Bombardier now has five contracts on the go, which will lead to 300 extra jobs, on top of the existing workforce of around 2,500.

    Brown trout have returned to the Lyme Brook at Newcastle-under-Lyme for the first time since surveys began there in the 1980s.

    The Environment Agency said the river has suffered from poor water quality in the past and that the trout's return proved efforts to put that right, external were working.

    Volunteers have also been trying to create breeding-grounds in the river, by creating shallow areas, planting water-plants and digging out other parts of the river.

    Three people will go on trial next year accused of killing a student by providing her with a potentially fatal dose of a slimming aid.

    Eloise Parry, 21, from Shrewsbury, allegedly took diet pills containing the controversial drug DNP before she died at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shropshire on April 12, 2015.

    Albert Huynh, Bernard Rebelo and Mary Roberts are being prosecuted by Harrow Borough Council for her manslaughter.

    They are also charged with supplying an "unsafe" food supplement containing DNP on the market between February 24, 2014, and February 24, 2016.

    The three defendants appeared at the Old Bailey before Judge Wendy Joseph QC for a plea hearing.

    Mr Rebelo denied the charges against him while the other two defendants were not asked to enter pleas.

    An eight week trial at the Old Bailey is scheduled to start next April.

    Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a mother-of-five at her home are attempting to trace several witnesses who went to the scene.

    Parvez Akthar, 46, has been charged with killing Shaeen Akthar, 49, at their home in Wright Road, Washwood Heath, Birmingham.

    Det Insp Paul Joyce, of West Midlands Police, said: "A lot of people arrived at the address after the incident and we are eager to speak to any of those people who we have not already spoken to."

    Her family described her as an "amazing, caring, beloved mother.

    A new adventure-based attraction launched with survival expert Bear Grylls is opening in Birmingham next year.

    Merlin Entertainments has announced the launch, but as yet has not revealed the details.

    The firm, which also looks after Warwick Castle, has announced a range of new features including the opportunity for visitors to stay in themed accommodation and try new attractions based on popular kids TV brand Peppa Pig.

    Details of the agreement come as Merlin's latest trading figures confirmed the hit from terrorist attacks on UK attractions in the peak summer months.

    High Street in Quarry Bank, Dudley, remains closed to traffic and pedestrians after the partial collapse of a flat above a tanning shop, says the fire service.

    They were called to the shop, Hot Bedz, at around 17:55 yesterday.

  11. Garden waste collections to be suspended over winter monthspublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Garden waste isn't going to be collected in the Cheshire East council area for more than two months over the winter.

    The authority has decided to suspend the service from 3 December until 11 February, saying it wants to "cut costs and rationalise resources".

    Ice cream vans from around the country will be gathering in Nantwich today, at an event organised by the Crewe-based van-makers Whitby Morrison.

    The company, which has been making the vehicles since 1962, has been holding this get-together at the Weaver Stadium for eight years.

    The gathering is aimed at people in the ice cream trade, known as "mobilers".

    Whitby Morrison, external employs 50 staff at its factory and sells around 100 new vans each year, exporting about 20% of them.

    Ghostly figures, an antique cot which rots by itself and an atmospheric whiff of pipe smoke.....

    All have been reported by staff at Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire, former home of Robert Dudley (amongst others) and visited by Elizabeth I.

    The castle has come a close second in the spook stakes, a poll (just in time for Halloween) across staff at English Heritage's 400 castles.

    Bolsover Castle in Derbyshire came in first place - with reports of mysterious footsteps and cold sensations.

    Shrewsbury Town hope to extend their unbeaten league record at home to Bristol Rovers tonight, but manager Paul Hurst says it won't be easy.

    After three draws in their last five matches, Shrewsbury have slipped to second in the table and Bristol Rovers scored six goals in their last away game.

    Hurst said that despite his side's early success, "everyone can beat anyone" in League One and their opponents shouldn't be underestimated, even though they sit 11 places below them in the table.

    The family of a 40-year-old father-of-three who died from a brain haemorrhage is taking legal action against the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust.

    Darren Pearce from Telford died at the Princess Royal hospital in Telford in February after suffering a haemorrhage which went undiagnosed for six days.

    An inquest heard last week that paramedics and doctors failed to spot the fatal condition and that his death was avoidable.

    The trust says it's carried out a full investigation and won't comment on the legal action.

    Four more bus lanes are to be suspended and one other scrapped in Coventry in a bid to reduce congestion, the city council says.

    A third of bus lanes were opened up to drivers for a six-month trial.

    Early results show traffic flow improved with no increase in bus journey times, the council said.

    A man has been charged with murder after his wife was stabbed at the family home on Sunday.

    Parvez Akthar, 46, is accused of killing 49-year-old Shaheen Akthar at their home on Wright Road, Washwood Heath, Birmingham.

    Emergency services attended the scene, shortly before 16:00, but Mrs Akthar died at the scene.

    Mr Akthar is due to appear before city magistrates today.
