    West Midlands Police photographed these cars on Washwood Heath Road, Birmingham, on Thursday and said the driver of the black car was facing three points and a fine, with the other two reported for wilful obstruction.

    London Midland says it is expecting to run a full service, but Arriva Trains Wales says the Cardiff to Manchester line will not operate between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly and routes from North Wales into Birmingham will not operate between Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

    Customers will be able to use Virgin, Cross Country and London Midland services instead.

    A Birmingham taxi driver has been jailed for nine months for intimidating a juror at the trial of his nephew.

    Police said it sent out a "strong message to anyone who might be tempted to interfere with the course of justice".

    Abdul Ghafar, 47, of Normandy Road, Perry Barr asked the jury member personal questions outside Birmingham Crown Court during a lunch break in the trial of Kumran Ghalib, who was accused of conspiring to supply firearms and ammunition, police said.

    He was convicted of witness intimidation and perverting the course of justice.

    His nephew, 37-year-old Ghalib, of Davey Road, Perry Barr, faced a retrial and was jailed for 12 years.

    The Avoncroft open air museum, external, near Bromsgrove, is taking part in a national study of dialects.

    Researchers at Leeds University have spent four years examining how different words are used to describe the same thing around the country.

  17. Flax mill could be 'structurally sound' in a yearpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 20 October 2017

    Historic England says the flax mill in Shrewsbury could be made structurally sound within the next year.

    Work is under way on a £20m restoration of the grade I listed mill, which is the world's first iron-framed building and regarded as the forerunner of the skyscraper.

    It was built in 1797, but has remained empty for the last 30 years. It has topped Historic England's At Risk register for many of those.

    Strengthening the building, and replacing windows, will complete stage one of the restoration project.
