    A woman who was almost deported despite living in the UK for nearly 50 years says she is is still waiting to be legally recognised by the government.

    Paulette Wilson, 61, arrived in Telford in 1968, aged 10, from Jamaica.

    Since her release last month from an immigration centre, her solicitor said the Home Office still considered her to be living in the UK unlawfully and could not get benefits.

    In a statement, the Home Office said there had been on-going discussions with Ms Wilson over the past three years.

    "These discussions did not lead to her making an application or providing the necessary evidence to show a lawful right to remain.

    "However Ms Wilson has now submitted an application last month and we are looking into her case to help regularise her immigration status."

    Stoke City have failed to win a Premier League game in November after Liverpool beat them 3-0 last night.

    The Potters last won in the league on 28 October, against Watford, and Jurgen Klopp's side eased to an ultimately comfortable away victory.

    There was controversy in the match - Stoke believed Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet should have been sent off for a challenge just outside the box on their striker Mame Biram Diouf.

    The result sees Stoke - with just one win in their last seven league games - three points above the drop zone in the table.

    Birmingham will learn later today whether it is still the only bidder to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

    Last month, the deadline for bids to host the event was extended to 30 November after Birmingham's application was judged to be "not fully compliant".

    Commonwealth Games Federation president Louise Martin announced the new deadline after congratulating the city on a "comprehensive" application, but saying more time should be given to assess plans.

    Even if there are still no other contenders bidding to stage the games, it will take a couple of weeks before a final decision is announced.

    The high-speed rail project HS2 will be a catalyst for economic growth in the West Midlands, according to a report out today.

    A study published by HS2 Ltd, the company building the line,, external says the train line should help re-balance the British economy by redistributing industrial growth outside of London and the south east.

    But the document also warns that more must be done to ensure the project reaches its full potential.

    The Home Office says it will look into the case of a Wolverhampton woman who was threatened with deportation to Jamaica last month.

    It said it had been having "ongoing discussions" with Paulette Wilson over the past three years, to explain how she can secure her right to remain in the UK.

    It was looking into her case to "help regularise her immigration status," a spokesman said.

    The authority on British etiquette Debrett's is to change its advice on how female councillors should be referred to.

    Its current guidance says a married woman should be titled "Councillor Mrs Jane Bloggs" as a opposed to a man who would simply be called "Councillor Joe Bloggs".

    East Staffordshire Conservative councillor, Deneice Florence-Jukes, external, challenged Debrett's guidance and they have agreed to change it, and get rid of the use of Miss or Mrs.

    Her own authority will vote on Monday whether to adhere to Debrett's new policy.

    Libraries in Shropshire that are due to be transferred out of council control will continue to be funded until 2022, Shropshire Council has decided.

    That's two years longer than originally planned for those 15 libraries.

    Beyond 2022, the authority will only run its six biggest libraries - those in Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Whitchurch and Market Drayton.

    It says that over the past three years it has saved over £1m from its library budget, but still needs to do more.
