    It said flights have resumed, but delays are likely due to the knock-on effect of yesterday's snow and freezing temperatures overnight.

    Hundreds of schools across the region are closed this morning following heavy snowfall yesterday and freezing temperatures overnight.

    Birmingham City Council says all council-run schools are closed, as are many in Warwickshire, Herefordshire and Shropshire.

    Most schools contact parents direct via an app or text if there's a closure, but some councils also publish lists online.

    Instagram user Abby Harris has put up a post showing heavy snowfall at the Edgbaston Reservoir near central Birmingham.

    Snow has significantly disrupted public transport across the West Midlands and schools will not open on Monday.

  9. School closures in Birminghampublished at 21:16 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    Birmingham City Council says all of its schools will be closed on Monday because of the snow and freezing weather.

    Children's director Colin Diamond said: "Conditions will remain very hazardous tomorrow and the safety of our children and young people is of paramount importance.

    "Even if pupils walk to school we will not be able to guarantee enough staff on site to look after them."

    He added: “I would strongly advise all other schools within Birmingham to do the same.”

  11. Environment Agency use 4x4s to help vulnerablepublished at 21:14 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    The Environment Agency in the West Midlands will be using its 4x4s to help vulnerable people in areas affected by heavy snowfall.

    Dave Throup, the agency's manager in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, tweeted that their staff and 4x4s will be "available to help vulnerable people and allow patients to get to medical appointments".

    About 230 schools across Shropshire will stay closed on Monday, due to the heavy snowfall and icy temperatures.

    With temperatures set to fall well below 0C, Shropshire Council promises to "keep people moving" and care for its "most vulnerable residents", but has urged all other staff in non-essential services not to travel to work on Monday.
