    Hereford's new £34m city link road opens today after being delayed due to last week's heavy snow.

    The road is a vital part of plans to regenerate the city centre, says the council.

    About 800 new homes are planned as well as student accommodation, a new police and fire station and a transport hub at the railway station.

    The father of a taxi driver killed in a horror crash in Birmingham in which five others died said he woke up this morning in tears because the house felt empty.

    Father-of-six Imtiaz Mohammed died in the collision on Belgrave Middleway, near Edgbaston, in the early hours of Sunday.

    His father Ihktiar said it was a "very sad time" for all the people who had lost family. Two passengers in Mr Mohammed's vehicle died, along with three others travelling in another vehicle.

    One of six people killed in a crash in Birmingham on Sunday had phoned his wife to tell her he was on his way home, his brother said.

    The dead man has been named locally as 33-year-old taxi driver Imtiaz Mohammed. The father of six has described by his family as a "happy, loving and friendly guy".

    A female passenger in Mr Mohammed's car was confirmed dead at the scene of the crash, which happened on the underpass where Belgrave and Lee Bank Middleway meet.

    Her male companion died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

    One man travelling in a car involved in the Birmingham crash that killed six remains in a critical condition at the city's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, police say.

    Michelle Brotherton, from the ambulance service, said her staff had dealt with 13 patients in total.

    As well as those who died and the man in a critical condition, four people were taken to Heartlands Hospital where their condition is believed to be non-life threatening.

    A further two patients were "discharged on scene".

    One of the main routes through Birmingham is open again this morning after a "horrific" road crash that left six people dead.

    Three vehicles were involved in the collision in an underpass on Belgrave Middleway at about 01:00 on Sunday morning.

    Three men travelling in one car died at the scene.

    The driver of a taxi and his two passengers were also killed. The police say they need witnesses to come forward.
