    Investigators say the fire on Doxey Road, Stafford, on Friday afternoon was caused by clothes being left on a cooker hob, which had then been accidentally switched on.

    The fire service says no-one else was at home at the time.

    Co-op Bank has announced plans to close its Liverpool Road branch in the town from May, external. The nearest branch would be in Hanley, six miles away.

    Residents claim to BBC Radio Stoke the closure will affect small businesses and charities and leave elderly and disabled residents disadvantaged.

    The Co-op says it's written to affected customers with advice and suggests that most day-to-day transactions can be completed at the nearby Post Office.

    Mylee Billingham's classmates at St James Primary in Walsall are being offered help and support to deal with her death, Walsall Council has said.

    Council leader Sean Coughlan said he was "in shock and in complete disbelief to hear that a little girl has lost her life in such a tragic way".

    "My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by this incident," he said.

    "The entire area will be left reeling in deep shock of her death."

    Keir Group, the construction and services company, has offered to take on more than 200 Carillion workers as part of a change in the running of public sector projects., external

    The Wolverhampton-based firm went into liquidation last week with about £1.5bn of debt.

    Kier said it is now a 50/50 joint venture partner with Eiffage on the HS2, high speed rail project.

    It also said it has assumed full responsibility for the Highways England smart motorway schemes on which they had previously been working in conjunction with Carillion, such as the ones on the M6 in Cheshire and Staffordshire.

    Because of those moves, Kier says it's offered all the Carillion employees working on those schemes the chance to join the new joint ventures.

    A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man found stabbed at a flat in Dudley.

    Jaskaran Kang, 24, from Handsworth, was discovered at a property in Stourbridge Road on 6 January.

    Dontay Ellis, 18, of Central Drive in Lower Gornal is the third person to be charged over Mr Kang's death.

    He was remanded in custody at Wolverhampton Crown Court today and will next appear on 16 July.

    The headteacher of the school where Mylee Billingham went says they are "all numb, we are in shock."

    Mylee, eight, died in hospital after being found seriously injured in Valley View in Brownhills, near Walsall, on Saturday evening.

    Andy Nicholls, head of St James Primary School, Brownhills, said: "We are all numb, we are in shock, everyone in the school is completely devastated."

    He added Mylee had taken an active part in school life and enjoyed singing and performing. Her smile lit up the room, he said.
