    A police dog left lying in a pool of blood after being stabbed by a man armed with a kitchen knife has been honoured for his commitment to the job.

    Police Dog Canto, a five-year-old German Shepherd, was stabbed in the chest by a man officers were trying to detain in a property in Bridgnorth, last year.

    His handler, Pc Emma Worrall, ordered Canto to detain the man but having leapt forward towards him he then fell to the floor.

    He continued to bark at the man and it was only later Pc Worrall realised he had been seriously injured.

    He was rushed to the vets and after an operation and period of recuperation he was allowed back to work.

    Pc Worrall attended the presentation given by Telford charity PDSA.

    "I thought I’d lost him that day so to see him here with his award is a very special moment," she said.

    Frank Field, the chair of the Work and Pensions Committee, asked whether KPMG, PwC, Deloitte and EY should be broken up in the wake of the Wolverhampton firm's collapse.

    Accountancy watchdog head Stephen Haddrill agreed the UK's four largest firms needed more competition.

    He said there had been no recent entries from smaller companies to the top of the accounting industry market.

    Worcester Warriors' Josh Adams will make his Wales debut against Scotland when the Six Nations Championship gets underway at the Principality Stadium on Saturday.

    Adams, 22, is top of the Aviva Premiership try-scoring charts this season after racking up nine league tries.

    The club says he will become the first Warrior to play for Wales since Chris Horsman over a decade ago.

    Shrewsbury Town have decided not to appeal against goalkeeper Dean Henderson's three-match ban - even though they're unhappy with the way it was imposed.

    Henderson started his suspension on Saturday even though the club hadn't received the reasons for his ban at that stage.

    He was filmed tossing an object back into the crowd at Blackburn after he'd been pelted by home fans.

    Shrewsbury feel Blackburn should be charged over their fans' behaviour.

    A woodwork workshop run by a disability charity has been vandalised leaving £1,000 worth of damage.

    Albrighton Trust, Moat and Gardens, external offers educational activities for those disadvantaged by disability.

    The money for its woodcrafting studio was raised by those who use it and it is the second time in two years it has been broken into.

    Sandie Jackson from the trust said her "heart breaks" after the workshop was vandalised on Monday night.

    "It's going to be a while before the workshop can be used again," she said.

    The prosecution is up its case against a 17-year-old boy and a man charged with the murder and manslaughter of James Brindley.

    Jonas Hankin QC told the jury that the teenager, who cannot be named, and 21-year-old Aaron Kharod, were "looking for trouble" the night Mr Brindley was killed in Aldridge.

    He was stabbed in the heart as he walked back from a night out on 23 June 2017.

    The 17-year-old denies murdering Mr Brindley and Mr Kharod, of Walsall Road, Aldridge, denies manslaughter.

    A phone box which it's claimed is being used for drug dealing is going to be moved to face CCTV cameras.

    Labour MP for Stoke North Ruth Smeeth has described the phone box on Portland Street in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, as a "drugs hotspot" and said Black Mamba is being sold from it.

    BT had faced calls to remove it and has confirmed the phone box will be moved to face CCTV cameras.

    A spokesperson said anti-social behaviour is "regrettable" but that it is "important for the local community that [the phone box] remains operational" as it is used to make "genuine calls".

    The widow of pioneering footballer Cyrille Regis delivered the final tribute to him during a public celebration of his life.

    Julia Regis told a crowd of fans, friends and family at West Brom ground The Hawthorns that she had been privileged to share part of his journey.

    The crowd also heard from his long-time friend and former Albion team mate Brendon Batson, who ended his tribute with a refrain familiar to supporters.

    More than 1,600 metres of paper and 500 metres of cardboard have been used in a tribute to the centenary of women's right to vote.

    Students at Birmingham City University spent three weeks crafting the exhibition, which opens to the public tomorrow at the university's Parkside building.

    Union leaders at engineering firm GKN are urging the government to stop a takeover bid.

    GKN has its headquarters in Redditch and employs 4,000 people in the West Midlands.

    Earlier this month the company rejected a hostile takeover bid by Melrose of more than £7bn.

    Birmingham Erdington MP Jack Dromey said he supported unions claiming the move would mean the break-up of the company and potential job losses.

    A man stabbed to death in Hereford city centre yesterday has been named as Robert Eacock, 33, who was from the city.

    He was stabbed during an incident on Commercial Street and died in hospital on Monday night.

    West Mercia Police said of four people arrested over the death on Monday, three have been released while inquiries continue and one has been released without charge.

    Church friends of Cyrille Regis have been remembering a "humble" man who did not "wear his stardom on his sleeve".

    One of them described the experience of making friends with a childhood footballing hero, saying he was initially "awestruck".

    Before Tuesday's funeral, another spoke of his sadness to be hugged by Regis one morning and learn of his death the following day.

    Happy memories remain, though, of a "wise" man whose hug meant you stayed hugged...

    Bosses at Croft Academy in Walsall said there was "an issue with web filtering software" during the film, which was shown during school time on Friday.

    Executive principal Paul Edgerton said an investigation is under way and "to comment any further would be inappropriate".

    The man, aged 35 and from Kidderminster, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drugs and has been released under investigation.

    The pedestrian, in his 30s, died at the scene after the crash on the A456 between Bewdley and Sutton Park Road at about 04:50 GMT on Monday.
