    Council tax is set to rise in Warwickshire after a new budget was agreed.

    The Conservative administration of Warwickshire County Council approved the plan today, which will see a hike of almost three percent, with an added adult social care precept of a further two percent.

    The move will add an extra £1.25 per week to Band D property payments.

    Dudley has been remembering its famous football son exactly 60 years after the Munich air disaster.

    Duncan Edwards, one of the Busby Babes, died from his injuries 15 days after the crash. He was 21.

    The Mayor of Dudley laid a wreath at precisely 15.04 at the foot of Edwards' statue in the town.

    A book of remembrance that had been at the Black Country Museum was taken to Munich by Andy Monk and Rose Cook-Monk of the Duncan Edwards Foundation.

    There it will be presented to the Church of St Peter near Manchesterplatz - a street near Munich Airport named in honour of the English club - where it will go on public display.

  3. Brothers cleared in Sikh temple protest casepublished at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2018

    Two brothers who were among more than 50 people arrested during a protest at a Sikh temple have been cleared of acting unlawfully.

    Jurors at Birmingham Crown Court unanimously acquitted Gursharan Singh and Kulvinder Bir Singh.

    The men, from Coventry, were accused of committing religiously aggravated offences at the site in Leamington Spa in September 2016.

    They were alleged to have grabbed an official's tie and removed a temple sign - claims they rejected, along with the prosecution's contention the protest was aimed at an interfaith wedding being held at the temple.

    They argued they had been protesting about alleged misuse of funds and "corruption" at the site.

  4. Woman accused of mistreating care home residentpublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2018

    A woman has pleaded not guilty to ill-treating an elderly care home resident.

    Sofiyah Aslam, 27, is alleged to have committed the offence on 77-year-old Betty Boylan at the Perry Locks Care Home in Birmingham on 15 September 2016.

    At Birmingham Magistrates Court, Ms Aslam was given unconditional bail.

    The trial has been set for April 19.

    Business leaders across the West Midlands say there's growing confidence that their campaign to bring Channel 4 to the region will succeed.

    The government has urged the broadcaster to relocate from London to better serve its diverse communities.

    A social media campaign to encourage a move here - which uses the hashtag #WMGeneration , external- has stepped up.

    It's believed that having the broadcaster somewhere in the region would be great for business, whether that be Birmingham, the Black Country or Coventry. But a reminder - there are other cities vying for the move too, including Sheffield, Bristol, Manchester and Leeds.

    Almost all ambulances are being diverted from Worcestershire Royal Hospital as it struggles to deal with demand.

    The measure was implemented just before midday after waiting times at the hospital's A&E department peaked at almost 12 hours on Tuesday morning.

    Only ambulance crews dealing with serious cases are being admitted to the hospital until the measure is lifted.

    Three women were racially abused by another woman on a bus, say police who have issued a CCTV image of someone they wish to identify in connection with the investigation., external

    It happened at about midday on St Fremund Way in Leamington Spa on Saturday 20 January.

    Another woman defended the victims and was then verbally and physically assaulted when she got off the vehicle.

  8. Decision 'soon' on hospital fundingpublished at 15:30 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2018

    Shropshire MPs have called for a decision to be made on funding for the proposed restructuring of hospital services in the county.

    The Future Fit programme was launched four years ago to look into an overhaul after the NHS deemed having provision, external across multiple county sites meant services were struggling.

    Ludlow MP Philip Dunne has joined Telford MP Lucy Allan in calling for the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust - which runs the Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal hospitals - to be included in the next round of national funding.

    Under proposals, Shrewsbury would be the county’s main emergency centre, while the Princess Royal in Telford would be the home of planned care.

    Stephen Barclay MP, minister of state for the department of health and social care, said he appreciated the importance of reconfiguration.

    He said: "We do expect a decision shortly on [funding], although I'm not in a position to announce that decision today."

    Once the project has funding, it will need signing off by NHS England before going to public consultation. The final plans will then need the agreement of health bosses to go forward.

  10. Bypass plans go on displaypublished at 15:10 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2018

    Members of the public have the chance to have their say on plans for the Hereford bypass.

    Seven proposed routes are being put forward under council plans to relieve congestion.

    The road will run from the A49 to the southern link road.

    There will also be an evening session on 13 February at Whitecross High School.

    The plans will then be on display at Hereford Library from 16 February.

    The consultation exercise ends on 20 March.

    The future of Coventry City Football Club is to be the subject of a parliamentary discussion, an MP says.

    Marcus Jones, who represents Nuneaton, Arley and Hartshill, took to Twitter to announce he had secured a debate on the matter.

    The Sky Blues play at the Ricoh Arena but the club's deal with the stadium's owners is due to expire in May, leaving the club potentially homeless.

    A 19-year-old man has been cleared of murdering an amateur footballer who was stabbed in the heart at a Stourbridge nightclub.

    The accused - Kobe Murray, of The Broadway, Dudley - was also acquitted at Birmingham Crown Court of an alternative count of manslaughter.

    The prosecution had alleged Murray deliberately plunged a knife into Mr Passey shortly after two incidents on the dance floor.

    Firefighters were called to rescue a horse after it got stuck between the bars of a metal gate.

    Rhys, 18, was trapped at Donnington Lane in Albrighton to which crews were called at about 09:40.

    It took them about an hour to free Rhys using specialist equipment.

    Worcester Warriors winger Josh Adams keeps his place in the Wales starting fifteen for the Six Nations Championship match against England at Twickenham on Saturday.

    Adams is said to have a slight strain so George North comes in on the bench for Wales as cover.

    Baldwin - who joined the club in the summer of 2015 - has gone on to make 32 appearances to date.
