  1. Thousands apply for Lego-builder jobpublished at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    More than 5,000 people have applied for the role of master model builder at studios next to the new Legoland Discovery Centre in Birmingham.

    The post will be one of just 22 in the world and pay up to £27,000.

    The job description says the successful applicant will construct structure attractions, curate exhibitions and mentor children and families in the creation of their own model masterpieces.

    The Legoland centre said applicants included staff currently in post with the royal household and "distinguished barristers".

    Hartlebury Castle is nearly ready to open to the public after a multimillion-pound restoration project.

    The Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust bought the property near Kidderminster in an attempt to uphold its history.

    From May, people will be able to visit previously-inaccessible parts of the former residence of the Bishop of Worcester and learn about its past through interactive exhibitions.

    The boss of a Worcestershire building company has been jailed for breaching health and safety regulations, after the death of a woman who was hit by one of the firm's lorries.

    Rugbir Jutla, 53, who runs Redditch-based Buildland, was sentenced to 21 months in prison and will also have to pay £25,687 in prosecution costs.

    The firm itself has been fined £150,000.

    Plans to create a new urban quarter at the HS2 Interchange Station site at Solihull could deliver 4,000 new homes along with 77,500 new jobs, said developers.

    The deputy leader of Solihull Council will be presenting the £10m plans at the international property conference MIPIM, in Cannes, France.

    The changes include the development of a plaza and public transport interchange.

  12. Man stabbed in leg during 'violent attack'published at 16:38 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    A man attacked by a group of four men was stabbed in the leg.

    West Mercia Police said the victim, in his early 20s, had been walking across the Dana footbridge in Shrewsbury at about 17:20 on Sunday when he was targeted.

    He tried to run off, but was attacked again on Howard Street.

    His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, but Det Sgt Dave Meyer called it a "deliberate and violent attack".

    The leader of Telford and Wrekin Council wants the government to commission an independent inquiry into sexual grooming in the town.

    Labour councillor Shaun Davies made the call following claims in the Sunday Mirror that hundreds of girls were exploited in the borough over a period of about 40 years.

    He had said yesterday that a national review into child sexual abuse should visit Telford to investigate, but Mr Davies's call on Tuesday for a standalone inquiry echoed that of the town's Conservative MP Lucy Allan.

    The Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Mercia region, John Campion, said "whether or not there should be an independent inquiry into child sexual exploitation in any part of the country is a matter for Government."

    Repairs are getting under way at the guildhall in Ludlow today and they are due to take three months.

    It's costing £107,000 to fix the ceilings and roof gullies and make changes to the windows, to allow three air conducting units to be removed.

    The 14th Century building, which is still supported by its original timber frame, was previously used as the town's magistrates court, but in 2012 it became the home of Ludlow Town Council.
