    There are a "number of outstanding items" that need to be finalised before Kenilworth station can be opened, Warwickshire County Council has said.

    The news comes as the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) revealed on Twitter, external that it had authorised the station for use.

    The council said it was looking to open the station "as soon as possible", but a date has yet to be set, despite lengthy delays throughout the project.

    A former Birmingham City Council officer has been under investigation by fraud detectives for nearly a year, it has emerged.

    ​West Midlands Police ​confirmed it made an arrest ​in May last year. The suspect was released under investigation.

    A report issued by independent accountants said an alleged "theft of monies" led to a "major overhaul of the systems and processes" within a department in the local authority.

    Due to legal reasons ​and the ongoing police investigation the council is unable to release the identity of the suspect or confirm the department they worked in.

    A woman called 999 to complain she was unable to get a refund on a faulty mobile phone, police have revealed.

    West Mercia Police said on Twitter, external it was "not a police matter, and definitely not an emergency".

    It is the latest in a string of inappropriate or hoax calls to police in the region and officers have previously said they delay staff dealing with genuine emergency calls.

    Police say they were tipped off about the cannabis factory on Homer Street, Hanley.

    They found 200 plants but no-one was at the house at the time.

  8. Man released after hospital stabbing arrestpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 13 April 2018

    A man arrested by police in connection with a stabbing in a hospital car park has been released under investigation.

    The victim, a 27-year-old man, suffered minor injuries at Birmingham Women's Hospital on Thursday.

    West Midlands Police confirmed today that a 41-year-old man had been arrested and questioned by officers.

    An expert on industry says Jaguar Land Rover has been "too slow" to get into the electric car market as consumers turned against diesel vehicles.

    It's as JLR says it will not be renewing the contracts of 1,000 temporary workers at its Solihull and Castle Bromwich plants.

    The UK's biggest car maker, owned by India's Tata Motors, blamed "continuing headwinds" affecting the car industry.

    A recycling crew in Sandwell have "saved the life" of an elderly man after he suffered a serious stroke.

    The crew realised the man had collapsed in his home and came to his aid, calling an ambulance.

    The man's family praised crew members Jason, Mohammed, Michael and Javed.

    A man's been charged after armed officers, external were deployed to a street in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

    Police were sent to Bath Road, Silverdale (pictured) on Wednesday night after reports of people in a car with a handgun.

    The 29-year-old from Coventry's charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

    Three others arrested, a 40-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, both from Coventry, and a 51-year-old from Newcastle-under-Lyme have all been released under investigation.

    Jaguar Land Rover was expected to announce the cuts on Monday, with Brexit and confusion over diesel cars again being cited as the chief reasons for the changes.

    JLR employs 40,000 people in the UK, 10,000 at Solihull.

    Jaguar sales are down 26% so far this year, compared with last year, while demand for Land Rovers in the UK is down 20%.

    Last year, global sales hit a record, but the company acknowledged that the UK market was "tough".

    Although the 14-year-old girl found dead at West Park in Wolverhampton hasn't been formally identified, police say her family have been found and are being supported by specialist officers.

    A murder investigation was launched yesterday. A post-mortem test suggested she had died due to blunt force trauma to her head.

    This lunchtime it was revealed two teenage boys had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    West Midlands Police said her death had been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, because she had been reported missing.

    Today's news about Jaguar Land Rover follows the firm saying in January it would cut production of some vehicles amid uncertainty over Brexit and changes to taxes on diesel cars.
