    Former Aston Villa defender Jlloyd Samuel has died in a car crash, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association has announced.

    In a tweet, external the association says it happened this morning in England and they extend "deepest condolences to his family".

    Samuel, 37, spent more than a decade in the Premier League with Aston Villa and Bolton, played against teams like Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich and received an England call-up.

    Customers of a bed shop in Stoke-on-Trent have told BBC Radio Stoke they're concerned it may have suddenly closed down.

    In2Beds, on Etruria Road, Hanley, has been shut since the weekend with windows covered in whitewash and a sign claiming the store is "undergoing refurbishment".

    It adds that customers can call a phone number but several have told the BBC they've rang it without getting an answer.

    The firm's website is still working but its Facebook page has vanished, external and it states on its website that its only other branch, in Somerset, external, has temporarily closed "due to unforeseen circumstances".

    Companies House lists In2Beds parent firm, SMS Furniture Limited, external, as "active" but its accounts are overdue.

    BBC Radio Stoke has been trying to contact the business and its owners but without success.

    It'll keep the 27-year-old at the Blues until the summer of 2021.

    This season Davis has made 41 appearances for the club in all competitions and has scored three goals.

    Labour says they’ve done a deal to take control of Walsall Council despite the Conservatives becoming the biggest party on the authority at the local elections.

    Two Independents and two Liberal Democrats will help Labour’s Sean Coughlan remain as leader, a blow for the Tories who had hoped to remove him at a meeting next week.

    A motorist had to be cut free from his car after a two-car crash on Battens Drive in Redditch this morning.

    Firefighters were able rescue the 27-year-old man by removing the sun roof and he was taken to the nearby Alexandra Hospital complaining of neck pain.

    The driver of the other car, a man in his 40s, was also taken to hospital, suffering chest and back pain.

    Seven weapons were found in a flat in Stoke-on-Trent after a 30-hour siege, police have revealed today.

    The armed stand-off at a property on Catharine Road, Chell Heath, began on Thursday afternoon after reports that health workers and officers had been threatened by a man with a crossbow.

    It ended on Friday night and officers now say that they found a crossbow and arrows, two Samurai swords, a machete, a homemade sword and a replica pistol at the site.

    The force says a man was detained willingly under the Mental Health Act and remains in hospital

    An attempt to have a report on the impact of Brexit on Birmingham released has been blocked by the city council.

    At an authority meeting last month, it emerged the council had asked staff to explore the potential fallout from a Leave vote ahead of the actual referendum in June 2016.

    However, it wasn't released to avoid influencing voters and, two years on, the city council now says it never made it past a draft stage.

    In its rejection of a Freedom of Information request by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, it said the report "was incomplete" and was never finished and signed off.

    Five people have appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court over the deaths of fox cubs at a hunting kennels in at Wormelow in Herefordshire, following a police inquiry into alleged cruelty.

    • Julie Elmore, 54, of Brynarw estate near Abergavenny, faces face four charges of killing fox cubs
    • Paul Oliver, 39, Sutton Crosses, near Spalding, Lincolnshire, face four counts of animal cruelty
    • Nathan Parry, 38, of Brynarw estate near Abergavenny, faces face four charges of killing fox cubs
    • Paul Reece, 47, from Itton, near Chepstow, faces two charges of causing unnecessary suffering
    • Hannah Rose, 29, Sutton Crosses, near Spalding, Lincolnshire, face four counts of animal cruelty

    The offences are alleged to have taken place in May 2016.

    The defendants, who weren't asked to enter pleas at this stage, were granted unconditional bail to return to the same court on 19 June.

    Gareth Southgate is due to announce England's World Cup squad tomorrow and while Stoke City's Jack Butland (below left) can be fairly sure of his place, there could be an anxious wait for some other players.

    Wolves midfielder Reuben Neves (below right) has learned this morning he is in the provisional 35-man squad for European champions, Portugal, but teams will have to cut those lists down to just 23.

    Aston Villa midfielders Birkir Bjarnason from Iceland and Austrialian Mile Jedinak also wait to hear if they've made the final 23, along with Stoke's Egyptian player Ramadan Sobhi.

    The former Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Joe Hart is another player who could miss out when the squads are cut down.

  17. Family shocked by raid on homepublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 15 May 2018

    Thieves on motorbikes have broken into a house in Warwickshire and stolen keys to a car.

    Warwickshire Police say the family living there were in the front room of their home on Nuneaton Road in Bulkington when the four people burst through the front door just after 21:00 yesterday.

    The intruders then fled in the car, which was found a couple of hours later in Coventry.

    None of the family was injured, but all were left shocked by the raid.
