    The Boston Tea Party coffee chain is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK to stop the use of disposable cups.

    From today, the chain, which has six of its 22 branches in the West Midlands, says customers must either bring their own mug, buy one in store or pay a deposit on one they can return.

    Owner Sam Roberts has previously said that to carry on handing out 300,000 disposable cups a year was "senseless".

    While paper cups can be recycled at specialist plants, they are not suitable for recycling with other paper and cardboard products because they contain a plastic lining.

    A driving instructor has been charged with several serious sex offences including raping a 14-year-old girl. , external

    Police say the 36-year-old was arrested yesterday.

    The force says the 17 charges also include three sex assaults, possessing and making indecent images of children and supplying Class A and B drugs.

    Officers say the charges relate to incidents in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Cheshire and Manchester and he'll appear before magistrates later this month.

    Shrewsbury Town are expected to name John Askey as their next manager, the BBC understands.

    The 53-year-old has been at Macclesfield Town since 1984 as player, coach and manager - last season he got them promoted to the football league.

    Like his predecessor Paul Hurst, Askey has a reputation for developing talent and working on a limited budget.

    He was recently awarded the freedom of Macclesfield and played more than 400 games for the club.

    An eight-year-old boy's died after a crash between a car and a lorry on the M6 in Birmingham. , external

    Police say it happened on the southbound side near J6, Spaghetti Junction, and they believe the car had stopped on the hard shoulder.

    They say the youngster, from Leicester, suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene while a man and a women in the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries. , external

    Officers have arrested the 62-year-old lorry driver from Hampshire on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    A firearms surrender in the West Midlands ends on Sunday after police extended it in the face of a series of violent crimes in the last month.

    They include three murders and another dozen shootings and stabbings in Birmingham and Solihull.

    Figures from the Office of National Statistics showed West Midlands Police had more than double the national average of gun crimes between 2015 and 2016, with 19 offences per 100,000 residents.

    Yesterday, Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson also spoke out in response to a second fatal stabbing in just a few weeks.

    Opponents of a plan to build holiday homes in a Herefordshire forest are to hold a protest march this weekend.

    A company partly owned by the Forestry Commission wants to construct 68 cabins in Small Mortimer Forest near Ludlow.

    Campaigners say the plans will damage a peaceful beauty spot that's a sanctuary for wildlife.

    More than 120,000 people have signed a petition against schemes at a number of holiday parks in forest and woodland sites.

    The firm behind the Mortimer project, Forest Holidays, however, says it will protect the environment.
