    At Prime Minister's Questions today, the Conservative MP for Solihull Julian Knight asked the PM if she would join him in thanking the police officers and the community of his constituency after the murder of mother and daughter Raneem Oudeh and Khaola Saleem on 27 August.

    Theresa May said she couldn't comment on the active investigation, but would join Mr Knight in paying tribute to the family, the emergency services and the work of the local community.

    A date has been set for next year's Velo Birmingham and Midlands cycle race - Sunday 12 May.

    The organisers say more than 25,000 people have already registered for the 100-mile race through the city, which involves closing a number of roads.

    The ambulance service says they were called to Mere Green Road, Sutton Coldfield, this afternoon.

    They say the woman had suffered several serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

    A 17-year-old boy who suffered cardiac arrest when he was tasered by police in Coventry on 1 September has been released from hospital, investigators said.

    The Independent Office for Police Conduct said its has now arranged to meet the boy's family and has gathered witness accounts from the officers involved, along with CCTV evidence.

    The boy was part of a group involved in a disturbance in Prior Deram Walk and West Midlands Police say he was Tasered in a bid to detain him.

    Two police officers also received minor injuries that did not need hospital treatment and a police car windscreen was also smashed.

    The start of free evening parking in Shrewsbury town centre will remain at 18:00, following a vote by Shropshire Council's cabinet today.

    Earlier this year the authority had proposed pushing the start time back to 20:00, but traders complained this would put off people wanting to visit the town in the evening.

    Ludlow will also keep it's 18:00 cut-off time for parking charges, following the meeting.

    The collision happened this afternoon outside the Bullring in Birmingham, the ambulance service says.

    Paramedics say the man, thought to be in his 50s, was treated for a serious leg injury and then taken to hospital.

    An off-duty police officer has been stabbed in the chest in Walsall, police said.

    West Midlands Police said the man in his 20s was attacked after another man approached him on Moreton Avenue at 13:30 and demanded the keys to his car.

    The force added the injuries are not thought to be life threatening or life changing.

    Pupils at a Stoke-on-Trent school will not be allowed in lessons until they keep to a new uniform policy, according to the school's principal.

    A number of parents have expressed their anger after they said around 90 students at St Peter's Academy were put into isolation yesterday on their first day back.

    It was because they didn't have the right type of grey trousers or skirts with purple piping on the pockets.

    This afternoon, the school's principal confirmed 37 pupils were in isolation today for not having the right uniform, after about 90 yesterday.

    He also said parents were told of the current uniform back in March and in June and July, before the summer break.

    A mother's been jailed for 18 months after being convicted of the manslaughter of her six-month-old son at the hands of his father.

    Kayden Walker died from "catastrophic" brain injuries in 2016 at the hands of Ricky Walker, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

    Walker, 27, was convicted of manslaughter and jailed for six years last month.

    Laura Davies, 25, from Walnut Close, Bilston, West Midlands, who was convicted last month of allowing Kayden's death.

    Passing sentence on Davies today, High Court judge Mr Justice Morris told her: "The death of a child is always distressing and shocking. The thoughts of a life not lived stay with us all.

    "You failed to take such steps as you could reasonably have been expected to take to protect Kayden."

    Vulnerable adults and children as young as 12 are being used as 'drugs mules' for dealers across the West Midlands, police say.

    The force says around 90 'county lines' are thought to be operating in the region.

    The National Crime Agency , externaldefines a typical 'county lines' scenario as a network between an urban hub and a county location, into which drugs - primarily heroin and crack cocaine - are supplied.

    A mobile phone line is set up for local customers to call which is controlled by a third party, usually outside of the county.

    A convicted killer who almost decapitated a grandfather as he stabbed him to death has gone on the run from Sudbury open prison in Derbyshire, external, police said.

    Andrew Craigie, 38, originally from Stoke-on-Trent, was handed a life sentence in 2007 for the manslaughter of 61-year-old Geoffrey Watkins.

    Derbyshire Police said he absconded from the prison yesterday morning.
