    Nine out of 10 vehicle thefts in the West Midlands went unsolved in the last year, new figures show.

    The Press Association found that West Midlands Police closed 91% of vehicle theft investigations without a suspect being identified.

    The force said it's committed to following the trail of evidence but that if none can be found, the chance of identifying offenders is "vastly reduced".

    A new homelessness hub is being planned in Stoke-on-Trent.

    The local authority says, now it knows it has the money, it's going to start drawing up plans from next week on where to build the hub.

    Two men continue to be held by detectives investigating a banned far-right organisation.

    The pair from Birmingham, aged 22 and 28, remain in custody after officers were granted a warrant of further detention.

    A woman and a man from Halifax are due in court charged with being part of National Action.

    The organisation was founded in 2013. It was proscribed in December 2016 after it was assessed as being "concerned in terrorism"

    A horse rider was taken to hospital suffering arm and leg injuries after her horse was involved in a crash with a van this morning.

    Emergency services were called to the B4086, near to Brockhampton Lane, in Kineton, Warwickshire, shortly before 08:40.

    The horse was treated by a vet at the scene.

    The county’s archives is throwing open its doors and offering the public access to areas normally hidden from view.

    It’s part of the national initiative called Heritage Open Days, which is aimed at giving people a unique opportunity to explore the sometimes hidden and interesting places in the UK.

    The prevalence of social media could be contributing to a sharp rise in teenage suicides, it has been warned.

    Erin Docherty, senior nurse lead for Forward Thinking Birmingham, external, argued that the relentless nature of online platforms such as Facebook and Instagram make it harder for young people to "escape" problems like bullying.

    A recent report revealed there had been a 67% increase in teenage suicides in England and Wales between 2010 and 2017, with 187 under 19s taking their own lives last year.

    Teenagers, she said, are impacted by bullying and "feeling not good enough about themselves", Birmingham councillors heard.

    Three teenagers from the West Midlands have been named in Great Britain's squad for the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.

    A total of 42 GB athletes will compete in the 2018 edition from 6-18 October.

    They include:

    • Archery - Alyssia Tromans-Ansell, aged 17, from Cannock, Staffordshire
    • Cycling - Harriet Harnden, aged 17, from Malvern, Worcestershire
    • Gymnastics: Trampoline - Jessica Clarke, aged 16, from Birmingham

    The third edition of the summer Youth Olympics - following Singapore 2010 and Nanjing 2014 - will feature athletes aged from 14-18.

    Team GB competitors will contest 17 of the 32 sports at the event, which will be the first Olympic competition in history to host the same number of male and female athletes from the 206 nations involved.

    Worcestershire all-rounder Moeen Ali's going to be given another chance to bat at number three for England in the fifth Test against India at The Oval.

    The 31-year-old bats at three for the Pears and, earlier this summer, made a double century in that position against Yorkshire.

    But he was surprisingly bumped up to three for England in their second innings in the fourth Test, having batted at seven in the first innings.

    However, for the final match of the series - which England have already won - skipper Joe Root confirmed Moeen will bat at three.

    Engines have been seized by police from a suspected "chop shop" found beneath a railway arch in the Digbeth area of Birmingham.

    About 20 engines were discovered - along with an array of parts and tyres - at the business unit in Andover Street. A number of them came from stolen cars, police said.

    Parts linked to stolen vehicles were also seized during raids in Darkhouse Lane, Coseley, and St Andrew's Road, Birmingham.

    West Midlands Police said they've been receiving, on average, one call a day from the public passing on information on garages or industrial units since launching its Shop a Chop Shop campaign.
