    Two firefighters who were killed 20 years ago in one of Herefordshire's largest fires have been remembered today by current firefighters.

    John Davies from Leominster and Dave Morris from Hereford died at the Sun Valley poultry processing factory in 1993 when they were trapped by a fallen ceiling.

    The fire started in a unit used for defrosting meat.

  2. Pilot areas announced for NHS appointments apppublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 6 September 2018

    Patients in Staffordshire and South Worcestershire will begin a trial of the new NHS app from October.

    They'll join people in three other areas of England in being able to download and use the app which will allow them to book GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions and see their medical files held by their surgery.

    The app is due to be rolled out nationally in December.

    A Staffordshire man's made the Guinness World Records 2019 for having the world's fastest jet-propelled go-kart.

    The latest edition of the iconic book's been published and has the latest breakers of weird and wonderful records.

    They include Tom Bagnall, 26, from Cheadle, whose go-kart travels at an eye-watering 112.29mph.

    The project took him a year to complete after he became fascinated with speed from a young age, and this developed into a love for engineering.

    Worcester Warriors player Duncan Weir says new forward Cornell Du Preez's reaction to his injury in Saturday's home defeat by Wasps was "calm and collected".

    The South Africa-born Scotland international, 27, suffered a fractured larynx in a collision with Wasps and England lock Joe Launchbury's knee.

    His director of rugby Alan Solomons has described the injury as a freak accident.

    Weir was also making his Warriors debut alongside his old Edinburgh and Scotland team-mate and says it is testimony to Du Preez's professionalism that he made so little fuss about the injury.

    Champion cyclist Andy Tennant from Wolverhampton is backing a campaign to build a velodrome in Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games.

    The organisers are currently planning to stage the track cycling events in London in 2022.

    They say it would be too expensive to build a venue in Birmingham.

    But cycling campaigners claim a new velodrome in the city would be in high demand.

    The arboretum, at Alrewas, Staffordshire, contains more than 300 memorials dedicated to all the armed forces, emergency services and civilians.

    The licence of a Birmingham club, where a 19-year-old was taken ill and later died, has been suspended, said Birmingham City Council.

    The man was taken ill at Lab 11 in Trent Street, Digbeth, Birmingham, early on Sunday.

    The club will remain closed pending a full review, after West Midlands Police applied for an expedited review of the premises licence.

    A hearing of the city council's licensing committee heard at "this early stage" it was suspected that the death was "likely to have been caused by a drug overdose".

    Four men arrested in connection with a £1m robbery at the country home of an entrepreneur have been released on bail.

    Burglars scaled a 7ft (2m) high wall at Sir Christopher Evans' home in Bibury, Gloucestershire, on 9 July and took jewellery and antiques.

    Four men aged 40, 41, 42 and 43, were arrested on Wednesday in the Cheltenham and Evesham areas on suspicion of burglary.

    Gloucestershire Police said the men have been released pending further enquiries.

    A police officer has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car which failed to stop in Walsall.

    The female officer was knocked to the ground after intervening in a domestic incident between a man and a woman in Hatherton Street at about 09:00 this morning.

    The car was later found in Bloxwich, said West Midlands Police.

    The Safer Travel officer is being treated in hospital, the force said.

    Police say they broke into K&M News Food and Booze on Hamil Road, Burslem, just after 06:00 today.

    Officers say the victim isn't believed to have any lasting injuries and the burglars got away with cash.
