Stoke-on-Trent's being given the chance to bid for a slice of £1.7bn to overhaul its transport links., external
The Department for Transport says the city's one of 10 areas which will now have the chance to bid for funding.
Stoke-on-Trent will now be given £50,000 to draw up a case as to why it should have more money spent in the area and what on.
The government says the local funding could go on improving connections between the six towns in the city and the main railway station.

Two men have been charged after dozens of scented candles were stolen from a shop.
Police say around 90 of the Yankee Candles-brand items were taken from Clinton Cards , externalin Stone, Staffordshire, yesterday afternoon.
The two men, both from Portsmouth, have been charged with theft and are due to appear before magistrates next month., external
Police have not confirmed if sniffer dogs helped track them down.
The 100-mile cycle route will go through Birmingham and Coventry.

The 30,000 sq ft (2,787 sq m) building is just off J4 of the M42, near Shirley, and has been bought by Wyre Forest District Council.
It says the move follows a first purchase of retail units in Kidderminster in June.
The council reckons it'll get a net income of £125,000-a-year which it plans to plough back into council services.
The trust says the closure is to protect patient safety due to a lack of A&E doctors.

There are calls for the NHS trust running Shropshire's two main hospitals to be placed in special measures, after it decided to close Telford's A&E unit overnight., external
Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) Board chose to suspend emergency services at the Princess Royal Hospital from 20:00 to 08:00, although no date's been set for when that'll start.
The Conservative MP for Telford, Lucy Allan, tweeted to say, external she'll now ask the NHS to put the trust in special measures as it "faces an avalanche of challenges and is not coping".
The leader of Telford and Wrekin Council, Labour's Shaun Davies, says he wants an urgent government rescue plan for the NHS trust, , externaladding the decision will lose the trust £3m a year.

A "call-to-action day" has been organised by protesters concerned about the future of their local hospital.
It comes after East Cheshire NHS Trust revealed it intended to shut the minor injuries unit at Congleton War Memorial Hospital at weekends over the winter months.
Managers say the move is to allow staff from the site to work at Macclesfield Hospital and ease pressure on its A&E.
But Congleton councillor Paul Bates told the local council's health board this week that he and others are concerned about its future - so are holding a cross-party day in support of the site on 13 October.
A man has been arrested after threatening his mother with a pair of knives.
West Midlands Police tweeted, external the man was now in custody after being detained in the Sedgley area of Dudley.

Frank Soo was born in Buxton in 1914, and is credited as the first non-white player to represent England.

Herefordshire Council says it's facing "significant" budget pressures due to demands on its children's social care department.
The authority's published its first quarterly look at how it's performing compared to its budget. , external
By the end of March next year, it says it is expecting to end up with a £1.4m overspend.
That, the council says, is down to growing numbers of children needing to go into care and a "lack of options" with residential care homes.
