Telford's A&E unit will be shut overnight., external
This afternoon, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust Board decided one of their two emergency departments had to temporarily close from 20:00 to 08:00.
They decided it would be Telford's and chief executive Simon Wright admitted in the meeting that the closure would be for at least six months.

It should be a mainly dry night, with the possibility of some drizzle in areas, and lows of 8C (46F).
Hundreds of people have turned out to watch a statue of former Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin being unveiled in his hometown of Bewdley.
Members of his family were among them.
Campaigners raised £150,000 to build the statue and it took three years to complete.

It's been decided one of the two A&E units in Shropshire will be shut overnight.
Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust board has has been debating this afternoon plans to close an A&E, due to staff shortages.
They're now deciding which of them will be the one to be shut from 20:00 to 08:00., external
Yesterday, the plans outlined shutting the Telford department as Shrewsbury is a registered trauma unit.
Five men have been arrested by officers investigating a man who was shot in a car in Birmingham last month.
Anthony Sargeant, 33, was shot in Rickman Drive, in the Lee Bank area of the city on 25 August.
He was taken to hospital and died on 31 August.
A 21-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder and four others, aged 19, 21, 23 and 29 were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
All have been released with strict police bail conditions while enquiries continue, said West Midlands Police.

The NHS board running Telford's A&E unit's been accused of "professional arrogance" as it considers closing it overnight.
At a meeting this afternoon, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) Board is looking at shutting the department for reasons of patient safety.
During the discussion, the leader of Telford and Wrekin Council, Shaun Davies, told bosses there had been some arrogance towards people asking "genuine questions".
He said he'd emailed the trust's chief executive, Simon Wright, to ask how he could help lobby government but "you couldn’t be bothered to hit the reply button, external".

Any overnight closure of Telford's A&E unit would last for at least six months, NHS bosses have heard this afternoon.
A decision's expected this afternoon as the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) meet, having heard the closure would be to protect patient safety.
Ahead of the meeting, SaTH had said a closure from 20:00 to 08:00 at Telford's A&E would be "temporary".

A meeting to decide whether or not to shut the A&E unit overnight at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital is under way this afternoon.
Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust says it's looking at the temporary move to protect patient safety.
At the meeting, Edwin Borman, the trust's medical director, told the board the service had become “fragile” and the trust was relying on the “heroic efforts” of staff to keep it going.
A decision is expected this afternoon.

A flagship government policy has already forced some of Solihull’s childcare providers out of business, a council meeting has heard. , external
Concerns about the impact that a scheme offering 30 hours free childcare was having on the borough’s nurseries and childminders were raised at a decision session on Wednesday.
Liberal Democrat councillor Laura McCarthy said while it was “fantastic” the places were being taken up by families, the system had piled considerable pressure on providers.
“Some of them [in Solihull] have already had to cease trading,” she said.
The government has maintained that the parents of more than 300,000 youngsters had reaped the benefit of the policy since it took effect 12 months ago, although it has pledged to continue to monitor the delivery costs.

The ambulance service says it was called to the A456, near Rock Sports Youth Football Club in Callow Hill, Kidderminster, yesterday afternoon.
It says the man was a passenger in the car and needed to be cut free by the fire service.
A woman who was driving the car was also taken to hospital after paramedics found she'd suffered injuries to her head and hand.
