    Some car parking charges in Worcester could go up by 10% if a shake-up of parking charges is approved by councillors.

    The authority estimates the move would raise £300,000 and help meet its target of saving £455,000 by 2020.

    Work on turning Worcester's Southern Link Road into a dual carriageway between the Whittington and Norton roundabouts is ahead of schedule, Worcestershire County Council has said.

    An extension to the railway bridge was moved into place in May, and since then work has been ongoing to construct two new westbound lanes.

    The council says more road closures will be in force for three days next week and it hopes to be able to give a firm date for completion soon.

    Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital has said the planned overnight closure of Telford's A&E department could have been prevented.

    In an interview with the Health Service Journal Chief Executive David Loughton said there were opportunities to address the problems, but they were missed.

    Mr Loughton also said his staff would suffer and that he's pretty angry that it will put more pressure on the A&E in Wolverhampton.

    New Cross Hospital said Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust (SATH) were offered the opportunity to join its clinical fellows programme, which would have given them access to 140 clinicians, but the offer was declined.

    SATH said it looked at joining the fellowship programme, but at the time it wasn't able to make progress with the team and it was now working directly with Wolverhampton University.

    Two cars were involved in a collision with a horse, which died at the scene.

    The force hasn't revealed anything more about where and when the discovery was made, whether it was found inside a property, or who they believe it belongs to.

    A spokesperson for the local policing team said: "We’re sure whoever has lost this money will be keen to get it back so we’d ask them to get in contact with us. They can either pop in to the police station or give us a call."

    A theatre's planning to open a smaller "pop-up" venue by expanding into the neighbouring empty Post Office.

    The Lichfield Street building in Wolverhampton has remained unused since the Post Office closed in 2013 and moved its operation across the street.

    Now, bosses at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre have put in a planning application to the city council to expand into the empty site. , external

    They've put a detailed exhibition of the plans in their foyer where it'll stay on show until 26 October.

    A police constable has been sacked, external after being fined for drink-driving.

    Zoe Cullen pled guilty in August to the offence at Derby Magistrates' Court and was fined a total of £1,161, including costs.

    The 45-year-old, who was a police officer in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, was also being banned from driving for a year after being arrested in January in Leek.

    She was dismissed with immediate effect from Staffordshire Police for gross misconduct, after a hearing today.

    A bus driver is being praised after he saved all his passengers when his double decker bus caught fire in Coventry earlier today.

    The incident happened just after nine near the junction of Gibbet Hill Road and Kenilworth Road.

    The driver was the only person to suffer from smoke inhalation after he ensured all passengers had left the vehicle before he did.

    A new stalking service in the West Midlands says it's been inundated with requests for support since it launched six months ago.

    The Black Country Stalking Support Service, based in Walsall, is run by the local Women's Aid charity and started in April. , external

    Since then, the service says it has helped 300 people and offers support to all victims, whether or not they know their stalker.

    A soldier who is due to be attempting a solo and unsupported ski across Antartica is receiving his MBE in London today.

    Captain Lou Rudd flies out next week to make a record-breaking attempt to cross the continent in memory of his friend and fellow Herefordshire soldier, Henry Worsley, who died trying to complete the same journey in 2016.

    He will be dropped on the Antarctic coast with supplies for 75 days and said it would be great if a Brit is the first "to crack this".

    An agreement has been reached to hand over Oswestry's old rail station building to a community group.

    Shropshire Council's cabinet has also agreed to give the Cambrian Heritage Railways group a grant of £30,000 to help preserve the Grade II listed building.

    The building on Oswald Road opened in 1860 and sat on the route between mid Wales and Gobowen boasting six platforms, but it closed when passenger services were withdrawn in 1966.
