    A Shropshire town is considering defecting from the Shropshire Council local authority area - to join neighbouring Telford and Wrekin instead.

    The idea has been suggested by the mayor of Broseley, Michael Burton, following a row over the amount of money the town gets from developers, via Shropshire Council.

    The suggestion is on the agenda to be discussed at the next town council meeting on 13 November.

    The leader of Telford and Wrekin Council, Shaun Davies, suggested in a tweet , externalthat it should be known as BroExit.

    Shropshire Council has been approached for a comment.

    A man's been charged with burglary after a conman posed as a plumber to trick his way into an elderly woman's home in Walsall.

    A purse containing £120 was stolen from the 86-year-old's house in Hilton Road, Willenhall on 3 November.

  3. More heritage buildings named 'at risk'published at 08:33 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2018

    Thirty-one new sites have been added to the "at risk" register by Historic England in the West Midlands, including Whitacre Works pumping station in Warwickshire and an ancient churchyard in Herefordshire.

    Holy Trinity church in Coventry, where George Eliot worshiped, which survived the Blitz mostly intact, needs urgent roof repairs to keep it weather-tight, the organisation said.

    Over the past year, Historic England has spent £1,521,054 in grants to help some of the region’s best loved and most important historic sites.

    Among the 35 sites saved include the Engine Arm Aqueduct in Sandwell, an important remnant of the region's industrial past, it said.

    There are still 431 people in the West Midlands watching TV in black and white, more than half a century after colour broadcasts began.

    A total of 7,161 UK households have failed to start watching in colour despite transmissions starting in 1967.

    The figures were released by TV Licensing in what appears to be a reminder that anyone watching television must by law have a TV licence.

    It is no longer possible to buy a new black and white set, though many are still offered for sale on sites such as Gumtree and eBay.

    A man has been arrested after armed officers were called to reports of a man with a gun at an address in Coventry.

    Police were called to an address in Gravel Hill in the Tile Hill area of the city on Wednesday afternoon, said West Midlands Police.

    The 46-year-old was arrested in suspicion of making threats to kill and remains in police custody, the force said.

    A fault on the signalling system between Worcester Foregate Street and Hereford is disrupting rail services in the area.

    Bus services are being arranged for affected passengers, said West Midlands Railway.

    A fire at a flat in Stafford was caused by a frying pan left unattended on an electric hob, said the fire service.

    Crews were called to the address on Astonfields Road just before 03:00, said Staffordshire Fire Service.

    No-one is believed to have been hurt, it said.

  9. Shadow health secretary makes hospital pledgepublished at 07:35 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2018

    The shadow health secretary, Jon Ashworth, says keeping the accident and emergency department open at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford would be a priority for a Labour government.

    He was speaking on a visit to Shropshire, where he met staff and patients at the hospital.

    Mr Ashworth also accused the Conservatives of not acting to produce a rescue package.

    The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust has plans to close Telford's A&E overnight, starting next month, because of staff shortages.

    It is also considering a shake-up of hospital departments, which would result in Shrewsbury getting the county's only emergency centre.

    People who live in Stratford-upon-Avon are being encouraged to give their views on plans for a major road on the outskirts of the town.

    The proposed Stratford Western Relief Road is designed to ease congestion, ahead of the building of 3,500 homes at the Long Marston Airfield Garden development.

    People are being urged to comment on the plans, external before the deadline expires next week.

    The family of the missing Coventry teenager Nicola Payne say they're praying the police will find Suzy Lamplugh.

    The search of a garden of a house in Sutton Coldfield now has entered its 11th day.

    Suzy Lamplugh went missing in 1986, five years before Nicola Payne disappeared, whose body has also never been found despite a recent search by a private team.

    Both families have met in the past to support each other.

    Nicola's father, John Payne, said the past two weeks have been very emotional for his family too.
