    The only Herefordshire soldier to win a Victoria Cross during World War One has been honoured this morning with a train bearing his name.

    Great Western Railway (GWR) unveiled the Intercity Express this morning at Paddington Station, naming it after Allan Leonard Lewis and a flying ace from the conflict.

    The 100th anniversary of the end of World War One is being marked by ice hockey clubs this weekend.

    Telford Tigers are offering free admission for armed forces personnel for their match at home to Billingham Stars on Sunday and will be holding a minute's silence with a bugler playing the Last Post.

    Head coach Tom Watkins said it was to "show our gratitude to those that have served and continue to serve our country."

    Coventry Blaze, who host Glasgow Clan on Sunday, have raised thousands of pounds for the Royal British Legion by selling the Armistice Day jerseys the players will be wearing on the ice this weekend.

    They put 25 up for sale at £150 each and they were snapped up in just 35 minutes.

    Thousands of people are expected to attend a Service of Remembrance this Sunday at the National Memorial Arboretum,, external marking the centenary of the end of World War One.

    Organisers say the event in Alrewas, Staffordshire, will be attended by guests including the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, who will take the salute from a military parade at 12:30.

    Before that, a two-minute silence will be held at the Armed Forces Memorial (pictured), which remembers the thousands of servicemen and women killed on duty or by terrorism since 1948.

    Work is starting on Monday on £15m of road improvements, aimed at easing future congestion when a designer outlet shopping village is opened.

    The development has been under way since the summer on the project at Mill Green, Cannock, which, when finished, should feature about 130 shops and restaurants and create about 1,000 jobs.

    It's due to open in 2020 and Staffordshire County Council says, ahead of that, the developer McArthurGlen has committed £15m towards highway improvements. , external

    They'll start on Monday, last for around a year-and-a-half and see work carried out on the A460 Eastern Way, including widening it to a dual carriageway.

    Budget pressures mean officers at Staffordshire Police don't have as much time to deal with crimes as they'd like, according to Chief Constable Gareth Morgan.

    The force needs to save £6m next year, external and is waiting for a government review on funding which is expected next month.

    The Home Office has previously said it is committed to getting police an increase of £460m in overall police funding in 2018-19, including through council tax increases.

    A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his ex-partner and her mother.

    Khaola Saleem, 49, and Raneem Oudeh, 22, were found stabbed to death outside Ms Saleem's home in Solihull in August.

    Twenty-one year-old Janbaz Tarin, of Evelyn Road, Sparkill appeared by video link at Birmingham Crown Court.

    He was remanded in custody until a plea hearing on 10 December.

    Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust board's meeting today and heard that fewer available beds means they haven't been able to carry out as much elective, planned care.

    Hospital bosses say they've also had to turn to expensive agency nurses through the summer.

    The NHS trust was placed in special measures in December 2015 and remains so, external, with the report saying it's working with NHS Improvement to get access to cash needed to maintain services.

    People have been reacting to our video telling the story of former soldier Matt Wilson from Herefordshire, who will be remembering his father and fallen comrades on Remembrance Sunday.

    Becky Woodward Martin wrote on the BBC Midlands Facebook page, external: "I will be thinking of my husband, killed in Iraq 2005, think of him every day and miss him so much. Also my grandfather, killed in Gallipoli 1915."

    And Diana Mentor added: "I will be thinking of my paternal grandfather, who I never knew, who was killed at Ypres."

    Terry Green told us: "I will be remembering my grandad. He was a regular soldier in the Worcestershire regiment, was wounded three times and gassed twice, he survived the Great War was demobbed in 1920 after serving for 12 years and 10 months.

    "Because of his health and sadly died in 1922. He told gran when he came home he had been to hell. I never new him but I’ll never forget what he and all the others did for us."
