    A 69-metre long transformer is being exported to South Korea via the roads of Staffordshire.

    The 405-tonne and 4.1-metre-wide transformer left General Electric in Lichfield Road, Stafford, at 09:30.

    It will then head to Stone and then to Talke at the county border with Cheshire.

    Major works in the centre of Birmingham forced the move of Remembrance Day events from Centenary Square to Colmore Row near Cathedral Square.

    That didn't stop a parade from several units and the laying of wreaths to remember those who died.

    A fresh appeal has been launched over the death of a man shot dead on a doorstep in Tividale, Sandwell.

    Scott Buchanan, 23, was shot in the chest with a shotgun in Callaghan Drive on the evening of 12 November 2008.

    West Midlands Police said despite almost 1,000 witness statements over the years the killer has not been identified.

    The force is urging people who know the identity of the gunman to come forward.

    Sarries scored six tries to Worcester's four in an entertaining contest.

    Worcester missed the chance to secure their semi-final spot and led twice against Saracens, including at half-time after Scott van Breda and Matti Williams crossed to cancel out Schalk Burger and Alex Lewington's tries.

    The Shropshire Union Canal is to get a £600,000 makeover this winter.

    The Canal and River Trust has started a five-month project to repair or replace 11 worn-out lock gates, missing brickwork and masonry, among other tasks.

    The work is taking place at various locations along the 66-mile canal through Shropshire and Cheshire.

    More than 1,000 calls to West Mercia Police last year took more than a week to be dealt with, figures show.

    Figures obtained by BBC Hereford & Worcester show at the end of June this year, there were still 277 calls waiting to be looked at.

    Last week, a police officer who did not wish to be named said public lives were being put at risk due to the backlog not being dealt with.

    Ch Supt Kevin Purcell said he recognised the problem, but insisted the situation was improving.

    The hundreds of thousands of horses killed in World War One will be commemorated with a statue to be erected in Staffordshire.

    A riding school in Burntwood has been raising money for the tribute which will be unveiled at the National Memorial Arboretum.

    Local schoolchildren are among those who've helped with the fundraising for the sculpture.

    The West Midlands Police area has been awarded £1.8m over the next two years to help tackle the problem of gangs and violence.

    The news was welcomed by Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson, who said it would be used on a range of schemes, including mentoring for young people to steer them away from criminality.

    Civilian victims of World War One are to be remembered at a service in Stratford-upon-Avon today.

    The town's Quakers will be holding a silent vigil at the Guild Chapel from 12:00.

    Roger Matthews from Stratford Quakers said the millions of civilians who died would be remembered, along with those who were made homeless, had their livelihoods destroyed or lost loved ones in the conflict.

    A pregnant shop worker was threatened and pushed to the ground by armed robbers, who made off with cash and cigarettes.

    The Norwich Express store, in Marston Green was targeted by the gang, two of which were carrying guns, at about 17:15 on 9 November.

    The shop worker was left shaken but uninjured during the "terrifying" ordeal, said West Midlands Police.

    Officers are asking any witnesses to come forward.

    Online food delivery riders in Birmingham are to display missing persons posters on their backpacks as part of a campaign to find loved ones in time for Christmas.

    They'll join hundreds of riders in London, Manchester and Bristol displaying posters on the bags used to carry food as part of the Missing People charity campaign, Deliveroo has announced.

    The company's app will also give customers the opportunity to donate to the charity.

    It said it would also be encouraging its more than 15,000 riders to sign up to Missing People's Child Rescue alerts, which send out notifications when a child goes missing in their area.

    A Falklands war veteran has finished a two-week hunger strike in protest at his treatment by a mental health charity.

    Gus Hales, 62, from Brecon, Powys, has been camped outside Combat Stress in Newport, Shropshire, claiming it improperly discharged him in 2015.

    He was also campaigning for greater mental health support for veterans.

    The charity "apologised unreservedly" to Mr Hales and will be reviewing its discharge of other veterans.

    About 1,000 beacons were lit at the end of Remembrance Day commemorations last night to mark a return to the light of peace after the horrors of World War One.

    HMP Birmingham, which was taken over by the government in the summer, is showing early signs of improvement, inspectors say.

    The prison was removed from the control of G4S in August after it was said to be in a "state of crisis".

    The Independent Monitoring Board said conditions inside the jail had been "squalid" and "vermin infested".

    However, inspectors said additional staff and a reduced prison population had made a difference and it was now "turning a corner".

    A garden in Sutton Coldfield continues to be investigated by officers in connection with the disappearance of London estate agent Suzy Lamplugh.

    The 25-year-old disappeared in July 1986 and was declared dead, presumed murdered, in 1994. A body has never been found.

    Police are searching at a house once owned by the mother of John Cannan - the prime suspect in Suzy's killing.
